Look at this!

Had a short walk through the garden after a 1/2 class to find this Monarch caterpillar in a J .

Although Monarch caterpillars feast on NATIVE MILKWEEDS it will leave the plant to pupate.

This butterfly was enjoying the clover that is allowed to grow and have flowers...if we mowed consistently this flower would NOT be available to this amazing butterfly.

A couple of weeks ago 16 expert butterfly people came to count the butterflies on Pelee Island. I asked what is being seen around Ontario? They said butterflies are down 45% in the past couple of years.

I asked why they think that is happening?

They said starvation. Think about that!

The one man said starvation in the spring particularly. The spring flowers that should exist have been replaced with cut grass which is starving the butterflies...

We can change this chain of events by planting our landscapes and minimizing mowing. Letting areas get to 6-12 inches in height means that flowers can grow and butterflies will also have a place to reproduce.

The people who were walking around with me were absolutely taken ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ with this incredibly blue butterfly.

Monarchs!!!!

Great news!

I saw my first Monarch butterfly yesterday evening!

Typically I don’t see the first Monarchs I just find eggs so that was great!
