Who am I?

My name is Kayla Annett.
I grew up knowing I was Indigenous, but never acknowledged my culture until I fully understood what it meant to be an Indigenous Woman. I am a status Ojibwe Daughter. My family originates from Pine Creek First Nation Reservation, Treaty #4 in Manitoba.
I took up beadwork in March of 2024 in school where I learned in depth, the history of Native Americans. I was inspired by the great stories my people endured, the traumatic experiences, the fight towards justice, along with the traditional medicines and celebrations. I quickly learned how beautiful my heritage is, and chose Beadwork to represent my admiration, curiosity, resilience, creativity, spirituality, and my Indigenous identity.
Beadwork to me, means honoring my culture, my people, the history, and the beauty of having Indigenous blood.
Many items I make are gifted rather than sold, truly to the fact that beadwork wasn't meant for sales, but to express gratitude and love to the receiver.
I started Kay's Kreations to express my creativity, appreciation and loyalty to my work, and to the people who take interest in it.
