Looking for an original unique souvenir of the Canadian prairies, only available here at the Wolseley Gallery.
These two pieces are about 32 inches tall, on pieces of wood. Using homemade air drying clay, there is real prairie wheat embedded in them, along with the impressions of Canadian maple leaves and maple seeds. Hand painted and urethaned. A unique piece of art.
Come in and check them out. We are open every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 11 to 4. Open other times by appointment.

Are you or someone you know a memomagnetist?? It’s sounds pretty bad but it’s easy to tell - just look at your fridge! That’s what they call people who collect fridge magnets.
Refrigerator magnets were first invented in the 1950’s and 60’s, and are one of the most popular travel souvenirs. They tend to be small, inexpensive and come in a huge variety of themes.
But did you know that now many modern fridges aren’t
magnetic as they are made of non-magnetic austenetic stainless steel. 😢 So that means that if you are shopping for a new fridge, you had better take a magnet with you to test before you buy the fridge. Nothing worse that having a hundred fridge magnets and no fridge to put them on.
Here at the Wolseley Gallery we have a lovely selection of fridge magnets- hand painted, clip art, cross stitch, and in the future will have hand painted porcelain ones.

Greeting cards began in ancient Chinese and Egyptian times, when they shared New Years messages on papyrus scrolls.
In Germany in the 1400s, they used woodcut blocks to print New Years wishes on paper.
By 1415 people began exchanging love notes.
In 1843 the first Xmas cards were created in London, England. Then cheaper postal rates and new printing methods made it affordable for everyone. Cards got fancier in Victorian times, and lace and flower images were common.
By the 20th century, large companies like Hallmark turned card making into a world wide industry. By the 21st century electronic and digital cards became common.
Nowadays there is a huge variety of cards available- commercial, digital or handmade for every occasion or event.

Today we are moving from jewelry to carpentry, mainly handsaws!
Handsaws were invented soon after the discovery of copper, in the Middle East, about 4000 years ago. The early Egyptians carpenters used copper saws, and the Cretans used bronze ones in about 1600 BC.
The Greeks and Egyptians replaced them with iron saws, then in the 17th century Holland developed the process of rolling wide steel stripes , which greatly simplified things. The saw teeth were originally developed as pullout teeth or push out teeth. 🤔😵‍💫
The saw is probably the most popular tool in the world, featuring in every trades persons tool kit.
But what do you do with old saws- why paint them and turn them into a piece of art🤗🤗
And our Bernadine has done a beautiful job on each one of these saws. Each one a piece of art on an old vintage used saw!!
All indoor/outdoor saws are cleaned, primed, painted and top-coated, and make great gifts for the person who has everything

Wire wrapping is one of the oldest jewelry making techniques, going back 4000 years to ancient Egypt. Wire wrapped pieces have been found in the tombs of ancient Pharaohs. Gold, silver and copper were the common metals used.
In Greece and Rome , jewelers made delicate lace like work, the Celts made complex interlocking knotwork, and the Vikings braided and twisted wire for heavy rings and bracelets. Today wire wrapping remains a popular jewelry making technique. These pedants combine stunning wire wrapping with unique stones.

The Gallery has some items done in a technique that may have never heard of, and is rarely seen nowadays.
Tatting is an ancient method of lacemaking, it uses thread to create intricate knotwork, similar to crochet.
First records of this technique originated thousands of years ago, when sailors and fishermen incorporated knot work into their nets.
It took off in the 19th century, and was called frivolet in France, tatting in America, and knotting in England.
There are different types of tatting- shuffle, needle, and cro- tatting. They involve many chains, stitches, loops and rings in many intricate designs.
