Brooks & Bear Have you ever wondered why teddy bears are so cherished no matter what year it is? I hand-make vintage Bears maintaining that same love from natural fibres.

Teddy Bears have been a sign of love, compassion and safety for generations dating back to 1902. My bears are NOT suitable for babies, toddlers or young children. They are handmade, hand stitched, have glass eyes (not child safe), cotter pin jointed (not child safe) and sewn using natural fibres such as German Mohair or Italian Viscose. All fabrics are imported to Canada from overseas out-of quali

ty vintage bear supplier shops. Not a lot mills are still operating in todays economy that produce these natural fibres for my bears. As such my bears are sold as collector items that will spruce up any shelf or window ledge around your home. I create all my bears with a soft expression as well as seal their hand embroidered noses with 100% beeswax to prevent fraying with age. I've had many people reach out lately asking if I make memory bears - for the time being I do not. Not until I can experiment with fabrics that are not the 'ordinary' for making vintage style bears. Vintage style bears often require the use of non-stretch fabrics and most of the time memory bears are made from baby onesies or clothing that is knit based (which is stretchy). The stretchy fabric would then not properly give us an adorable bear with proper proportions.

Once I have the opportunity to try experimenting with baby clothing to attempt to create a memory bear - I MAY be able to make them in the future on request.

Shown below is a bear I made out of my partner's old jeans that were non-stretch based. This allows us to see what a bear may look like without no fur - which I think is still super cute! He is still stuffed with sawdust and weighted with metal pellets to retain that vintage style.

If I ever do venture into taking on a few memory bear commissions - they of course would retain the same as all my bears of being display pieces only and not for children.

I think my favourite thing is seeing how each face turns out so different on EVERY creation. His nose still needs bees waxed and polished as well as shading added to the face to bring it all together

Finally finished this smaller bear and he came out so adorable! Completely handsewn - here is his specs:

🔹 made from vintage tie dye German viscose fabric
🔹 glass eyes
🔹 velvet nose
🔹 stuffed with sawdust and metal granules in his tummy for weight
🔹 cotter pin joints with a wobble head for ease of positioning no matter where he sits around your house
🔹 shading with pastels for an aged look
🔹 knitted miniature scarf collar
🔹 7.5” tall from standing height

It has been so long since I finished a traditional bear 🪡🧵 this little guy is almost finished up. Packing with sawdust is always very time consuming but makes a traditional bear feel so unique. Just needs a few accessories 🧸
