Brooks & Bear

Brooks & Bear Have you ever wondered why teddy bears are so cherished no matter what year it is? I hand-make vintage Bears maintaining that same love from natural fibres.

Teddy Bears have been a sign of love, compassion and safety for generations dating back to 1902. My bears are NOT suitable for babies, toddlers or young children. They are handmade, hand stitched, have glass eyes (not child safe), cotter pin jointed (not child safe) and sewn using natural fibres such as German Mohair or Italian Viscose. All fabrics are imported to Canada from overseas out-of quali

ty vintage bear supplier shops. Not a lot mills are still operating in todays economy that produce these natural fibres for my bears. As such my bears are sold as collector items that will spruce up any shelf or window ledge around your home. I create all my bears with a soft expression as well as seal their hand embroidered noses with 100% beeswax to prevent fraying with age. I hope you enjoy your time browsing as I work on brining my lovely friends to life.

I think my miniature knitting has improved so much 🙋🏻‍♀️ I’m not really a knitter but I guess I can be if I set my mind to it enough. I suppose my next larger bear will have a sweet sweater to wear when I’m ready to make him 🧶

Manifesting small but adorable things 🥰 I've never made a bunny before but feel I am on the right track! Lop ears are always a favourite of mine.

Made from Viscose teddy fabric, cotton woven, glass eyes and of course stuffed firmly with sawdust. Next time I will size the pattern up a bit but for now working smaller does mean the hand sewn nature is less taxing and is finished quicker 🐰 or so I like to think anyways

In the process of knitting a sweater for my next larger bear 🧶 I always think miniature knitted items are somewhat so cute and tiny!

So far this sweater is looking fabulous as my knitting skills has really improved since the last one I made with neater knit stitches and neater ribbing

The real challenge is tackling the collar for me for some reason. We shall see how this one turns out

Meet Lila 🧸

My newest vintage bear finished up this morning. She was a long time in the making as sometimes these larger bears you do lose your desire to finish them. She’s waited a whole year to be completed! Here’s her details:

* made of viscose vintage teddy fabric imported from Germany
* head and limbs packed tightly with sawdust
* belly is filled with metal pellets in a pouch for weight and stuffed with 100% wool fiber
* glass eyes and cotter pin joints (not child safe 🚫)
* tinted details with oil paints and pastels combined
* beeswax sealed hand threaded nose polished to shine
* handmade flower wreath neck collar constructed of merino wool handmade felt flower arrangement tinted with pastels

She is quite heavy to hold and really accents any room in your house. I’m super happy with how she turned out while being completely handsewn with not a single machine. At present the oil paint will take a week or more to dry completely and will lighten a small amount

Enjoy !

Vintage style bear almost finished 🪡 completely handsewn with vintage techniques including filling head and limbs with packed sawdust

I just finished hammering the feet flat 🔨and adding the thread details to the paws

Soon I’ll fill his belly with metal pellets - makes my vintage bears feel pleasantly heavy when picked up. I truly enjoy making bears with new materials while using old techniques that are often lost in todays world

Here is the bunny crew all finished 🎡🎠

They are heading to this years hobby show then will be looking for homes afterwards when I'll list them up for grabs 🏡

They are completely handmade and filled with poly fill stuffing. Cotter pin joints (not safety joints) and glass eyes (not safety eyes). Tinted features with pastels on the face.

I'm really happy with how all of these came out. Each unique in their own way!

These are not appropriate for babies or small children

🛑 as always my vintage style teddies are not suitable for babies or young children due to using glass eyes (not safety eyes) and cotter pin joints (not safety joints).

Finished photo of this adorable 12” tall bun made of synthetic fibers, cotter pin disks, glass eyes, tinted with pastels and a safety nose. She features a handmade collar that is removable. Head is not on a turning disk. Arms and legs are fully moveable with faux button joints on the outside for aesthetic purposes. Very happy with these bun! 🧵🪡

This creation will be on display during Woodstock’s old home week during the craft fair before she is sold and finds a new home 🇨🇦

It's been so long since I've posted any bears. I think Its about time I change that 🩵 this is a smaller marbled bear who is a light blue/white. He has a head stuffed with saw dust packed tightly, glass eyes and hand tinted details to make him appear old and worn. So far his face turned out absolutely charming

I’ve been slowly stocking up on items I’ll need to make bears to sell so they can be adopted into homes. This is taking time due to me having to import most items.

I did have some gorgeous fabric arrive all the way from the UK in prep for smaller bears 6-9” tall. These bears will have a cheaper price point due to them being made with viscose (still a vintage bear fabric but cheaper than mohair).

Once i finally get some bears finished, photographed and my art portfolio built up - then I’ll be posting some for adoption 🧸 I also am going to do a giveaway soon to start things off 🎁 stay tuned !
