Huronia Nurseries Ltd. prides itself for growing quality, locally grown acclimatized plant material. In 1949 Milt Leonard planted his first tree seed. SInce it takes 3 years for a tree seedling to develop from seed to plant, Milt started Huronia Nurseries in 1952.Since that time Huronia Nurseries has been growing ornamental and coniferous trees as well as flowering shrubs and evergreens. In 1991 Milt's son Gord, along with his wife Beverley and their son Darrell, purchased the business from MIlt and continue to grow nursery stock. In May 2012, with deep sorrow and greatly missed, Gord passed away due to pancreatic cancer. Darrell along with his mom Beverley continue to grow nursery stock for the homeowner and landscape trade. Along with trees, shrubs and evergreens, Huronia Nurseries also grows a limited selection of hardy perennials and beautiful annual flowers from their greenhouse. By growing a large majority of what is sold on the farm, Huronia Nurseries plant material is acclimatized to our growing area of Georgian Bay and not introduced or brought in from outside Canada. Consumers need to know where their product is grown so that the plant material will survive the Georgian Bay climate. This philosophy echoes the trend of "Buy Local" and the "100 Mile Diet".
