We come from different countries, speak with different accents, practice different traditions, and have different experiences. None of that has to stop us from seeing each other as part of a larger story.
Unity doesn't mean we all become the same. It means we recognize that our futures are connected, even if our journeys have been different.

We all understand that families pass down traditions, values, and habits. So why is it so hard to believe they can also pass down fear, survival instincts, and the effects of trauma?

Dr. Joy DeGruy challenges us to think about how centuries of slavery, followed by generations of discrimination, may still shape the way some families and communities experience the world today. Whether you agree with every part of her theory or not, it's a conversation worth having.

Sometimes the past doesn't disappear. Sometimes it echoes through the generations.

We always talk about our Top 5 when it comes to basketball, music, and everything else… so I started thinking, what would my Top 5 look like when it comes to Black leaders and thinkers?

These are mine: Malcolm X, Fred Hampton, Dr. John Henrik Clarke, Kwame Ture, and Bobby Hutton. Definitely not saying this are the only 5, because I know there are alot of giants left off.

People often think racism is just about hate. But history shows it can also be about power.

When a government, court system, school system, banking system, or housing policy has the power to shape where people live, what opportunities they have, or how they're treated under the law, those decisions can affect entire communities for generations.

That doesn't mean prejudice only exists in one place or one group. Anyone can hold prejudice. But history reminds us that when prejudice is backed by institutions with the power to write laws, enforce policies, and control resources, its impact reaches far beyond one person's beliefs.

That's why understanding history matters. If we only look at individual attitudes, we can miss how systems have shaped people's lives.

Know the story. Know the people. Know yourself.

I don't think places like this are built to make us feel guilty.

I think they're built to make sure the people who suffered aren't forgotten.

Located in Montgomery, Alabama, the National Memorial for Peace and Justice opened in 2018 as the nation's first memorial dedicated to the victims of racial terror lynchings. Created by the Equal Justice Initiative, it honors more than 4,400 documented Black men, women, and children who were victims of racial terror lynchings between 1877 and 1950. More than 800 steel monuments stand as reminders of the counties where these killings took place, each bearing the names of victims from that community.

This memorial isn't asking us to live in the past. It's asking us to remember it. Because every name represents a life, a family, and a future that deserved better.

Memory isn't the opposite of healing. Sometimes it's where healing begins.
