Grammy Award winner Freddie Gibbs is coming back to Indianapolis for what might be one of the most special tour stops of the entire year.

The Gary native will take the stage at the Egyptian Room at Old National Centre on June 14 — his birthday.

That means Indiana fans won’t just be getting a concert. They’ll be getting a birthday celebration and homecoming performance from one of the most respected rappers of his generation.

From Piñata and Bandana to Alfredo and his latest music, Gibbs has spent years proving that world-class hip-hop can come out of Indiana. Along the way, he’s earned Grammy recognition, critical acclaim, and the respect of some of the biggest names in the industry while never shying away from his Gary roots.

Now he’s bringing The Last Rabbit Tour to Indianapolis for a special birthday performance in his home state.

For many Indiana hip-hop fans, Freddie Gibbs is the greatest rapper to ever come out of Indiana. Others may have different names in mind. But whether you agree or disagree, there’s no denying he’s become one of the most successful, respected, and influential rappers Indiana has ever produced.

Check the comments for the ticket link.

And make sure you’re locked in tomorrow because Black Indy Live will be giving away a couple tickets to the show.

One more question:

Is Freddie Gibbs really the undisputed greatest Hoosier rapper of all time?

Or is there someone else who deserves the crown?

At a time when Indianapolis seems to be debating fights, shootings, disturbances, and other incidents connected to nightlife and entertainment events, one rapper may be putting a new spin on the conversation.

Iconic Southern rapper Plies has announced he’s bringing a “40 & Up With A Good Job” all-white day party to Indianapolis on July 18 at La Flaca.

The concept is simple: a daytime event geared toward an older crowd, working professionals, and people who say they’re tired of the drama that can sometimes come with younger party scenes.

For months, we’ve seen people in Indianapolis argue that certain events should be 35-and-up, 40-and-up, or even older to help create a different atmosphere and reduce the incidents that sometimes make headlines. Now an out-of-town artist is bringing an event built around that exact idea to the city.

Will it be a huge success and prove Indianapolis wants more age-restricted events? Or is age just a number and behavior comes down to the individual, not the birth certificate?

One thing is certain: people are going to be watching closely to see how this one turns out.

Would you attend a 40-and-up party? Should Indianapolis have more age-restricted events, or is that unfair to younger adults?
