GNG Morgoth 6 "Medusa"

Greek mythology has fascinated me since childhood, and Medusa is a subject I have wanted to explore for a long time. Not as the screaming figure we all know from Caravaggio, but as something quieter and more magnetic.

In this interpretation, her power sits in a gaze you cannot quite meet, while the serpents dissolve into flowing, voluminous locks that feel almost alive.

Mother of pearl, abalone, and ebony are inlaid into the figured Italian poplar.

Grateful to Larry P. for seeing it instantly and giving it a home.

GNG “Three Worlds” – NAMM 2025

Revisiting one that still means a lot to me. This piece, inspired by M.C. Escher’s Three Worlds, translates its layered vision into wood and stone: engraved mother-of-pearl leaves, ebony branches, and vivid stone inlay fish.

Quilted maple over swamp ash, flamed maple multiscale neck and fretboard, Schaller tuners with ebony k***s, Hipshot bridges, and engraved details throughout. The tone is beautifully rich, deep, and always clear and defined.

Built for Mike M and already in its new home, I am always open to creating new art-driven instruments.

For this Morgoth, Michael asked me to create an inlay inspired by his father’s drawings.
The “Forest Nymph” (emerging between True Temperament frets) is crafted from stones and mother of pearl, inlaid and engraved with fine detail. Flowing across the back, vines made of stabilized poplar burl extend into the pale moon ebony fretboard, giving the instrument a living, organic character.

The top is a rare exhibition-grade figured Italian poplar, paired with a korina body and a flamed roasted maple neck.

Hardware includes a Gotoh 510 tremolo customized with Graphtech piezo saddles and preamp, GNG custom-wound HSS pickups voiced for Mike, and Schaller locking tuners with ebony k***s.

The deep forest green finish was achieved with ultra-thin layers of cyan, yellow, and blue, creating smooth fades and enhancing the unique figure of the wood beneath.

If yesterday’s color felt bold, this is where it starts to make sense.

The inlay for the yellow Fëanor 8 is now a clear reference, shaped in recon stones, mother of pearls, and abalone.

Multiscale layout and fully tremolo-compatible. Toward the end of the fretboard, a subtle scalloped section hints at the shred-oriented direction of this 8-string headless axe.

The inlaid figure is built from Mother of Pearl and recon
stones, with engraved lines filled by hand to bring out
every detail. Up close it’s a different thing entirely.

Specs are straight to the point. Figured Italian poplar
top on a lightweight alder body, amaranth neck, ebony
fretboard, Evertune bridge for total tuning stability,
GNG custom pickups, Schaller locking tuners, finished
in scarlet red with matching headstock.

The tone is extremely resonant and alive, responsive
and deep, yet clear and defined.

This one took a minute… finally completed another videogame-inspired GNG artboard guitar, this time featuring ELDEN RING’s Malenia. ⚔️🌹

Custom made for Niko Z. 🇩🇪 he had a great vision from the beginning!

More pictures and full album coming in the next days. And no, the inlay it’s not paint or epoxy: the figure is built from Mother of Pearl shells and recon stones, the fine black lines are engraved and filled to bring every detail to life.
