Hi all 👋 this week, just like the swiss trains after the first snow, almost everyone bowed down to the rain and stayed at home. So I am actually posting a bookclub pic from another day 🙈

4 ⭐ The offing by Ben Myers - friendship, age gap, not too gripping, cozy read, good dialogue and writing
4 ⭐ I who have never known men by Jacqueline Harpman - sci fi, post apocalyptic, society restart, empty world, ambiguous, open ended
5 ⭐ Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders - set in the limbo/graveyard where Willie (Lincolns son) is buried, includes many quotes from the civil war, wanting life, sentimental
5 ⭐ Waiting to be arrested at night by Tahir Hamut Izgil - non fiction, western china poet exhiled in the US, culture genocide, mass imprisonment and reeducation camps, very well written in terms of language, style and structure, not too emotional (analytical but caring)
3 ⭐ Like a fish in water by multiple authors - short stories from multiple authors, all stories are around swimming, easy and enjoyable stories (recommendation of Franz Hohler as a swiss author for short stories in German)
4 ⭐ You deserve each other by Sarah Hogle - about breaking up/trying to ruin an engagement, funny
4⭐ I am glad my mom died by Jennette McCurdy - ex child actor, forced to act by mother, shocking and dysfunctional relationship with mother, not too self centered or hateful, self deprecating, not lovable, felt like a way of coping with her childhood
4 ⭐ The Other Olympians by Michael Waters - 1930 Olympics, non fiction, gender transition, media coverage, defining gender
4 ⭐ Nuclear war by Annie Jacobsen - author is investigative journalist, US attacked by North Korea, breakdown of the scenario, nuclear weapons, detailed projection of what would happen with government, environment, people and animals, protocol, etc
5 ⭐ The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides - very surprising ending, good thriller (recommend Behind her eyes by Sarah Pinborough for lover of this book)
