The sensor lens and rotary k**b both project beyond a 4 mm face—but they ask the structure to do different jobs.
At my review desk, I do not try to force either one flush.
Around the sensor lens, I focus on support around the centre opening, module alignment and a compact transition into the square face. The lens needs to keep its functional projection without making the surrounding panel feel weak.
The rotary control is different. Turning force travels through the k**b, shaft and rear mechanism. Here I focus on shaft alignment, the supported load path and rotational clearance so the 4 mm decorative face does not carry the operating force alone.
Both products still need terminal access, mounting stability and compatibility with the intended back box. But they should not use the same centre structure simply because they share the same ultra-thin exterior language.
This is where platform engineering becomes valuable: keep the recognisable 4 mm edge and family proportions, then adapt the hidden support logic to each function.
