The value of glass lenses in this scenario lies not in their peak performance at the factory, but in their ability to capture images even after being released for several years. UV irradiation does not cause yellowing, humid and hot environment does not mold, and temperature changes dramatically do not shift the focus - these may sound like basic requirements, but it is not easy to achieve solid results. The fundamental reason glass lenses are irreplaceable in high-end applications such as industrial, automotive, and security systems is just two words: stability. First is thermal stability.

The coefficient of thermal expansion of glass is much lower than that of plastic. Within a temperature range from -40°C to +85°C, the curvature radius and thickness of glass lenses change very little, making focal point drift unlikely.
