At Dolores Garrido School methodologies that go beyond traditional classroom instruction. Our purpose is to create meaningful, dynamic, and participatory learning experiences in which students can use English in real and purposeful contexts.
Through playful activities, collaborative work, projects, games, and experiential learning, English teachers encourage students to become active participants in their own learning process. These strategies aim to increase motivation and provide students with opportunities to interact with the language in a natural and meaningful way.
This pedagogical approach is aligned with the principles established in the Curricular Guidelines for Foreign Language Education and the Basic Learning Rights (DBAs) for English. It promotes the development of communicative competence by integrating listening, speaking, reading, and writing, while also fostering intercultural awareness, creativity, autonomy, collaboration, and critical thinking.
Within this educational framework, English Day was designed as an opportunity to put this methodology into practice. The event was organized through thematic classrooms, with each classroom presenting a different topic related to general knowledge, culture, and the use of English.
Rather than having students simply attend another traditional English class, the activity transformed the school environment into a series of interactive learning spaces. Students became the protagonists of the experience, preparing presentations, creating games and activities, interacting with their classmates, and using English for authentic communicative purposes.
The games and activities were created and organized by the students themselves, allowing them to learn not only through participation but also through creation and collaboration. This process strengthened their sense of responsibility, autonomy, creativity, teamwork, and confidence in using English.
Furthermore, the thematic classrooms promoted intercultural competence, giving students the opportunity to explore different cultures and perspectives while recognizing the value of diversity. In this way, English became more than an academic subject: it became a tool for communication, cultural exploration, interaction, and connection with the world.
Therefore, at Dolores Garrido School, English Day was conceived not simply as a school celebration, but as a pedagogical strategy that reflects the English Area's commitment to innovative, student-centered, meaningful, and communicative language teaching.
Through this experience, the school sought to demonstrate that learning English can happen beyond the traditional classroom through experiences that allow students to participate, play, create, interact, communicate, and learn.
