El Tio Conejo me ha pedido que le ayude a reflexionar sobre los acontecimientos de esta semana.
Yo que tengo la suerte y el lujo de poder haber estado al lado de mi familia durante los angustiantes segundos del pasado Lunes, agradezco lo valioso y simple de poder aun, amar a los míos en presente y sentir su temor, su amor, su desasosiego y su esperanza.
Gracias a todos aquellos que me han hecho sentir querido a lo largo de los últimos dias, y aspiro a que aquellos que perdieron poco o mucho, encuentren paz y optimismo durante el reencuentro.
Gracias a la vida por dejarme disfrutar aquellos que amo y por ponerme en un lugar privilegiado, desde donde tener una perspectiva optimista es casi que insultante para aquellos que perdieron seres queridos o cosas obtenidas con sacrificio y disciplina.
Estoy seguro que resurgiremos de este momento oscuro y que la bien merecida fama de Manizales como ciudad culta y amable se consolidará gracias a la generosidad y resiliencia de nuestra gente.

Having the luck and privilege of being by my family’s side during the distressing seconds of last Monday, I am deeply grateful for the precious and simple gift of still being able to love my own in the present—to feel their fear, their love, their anxiety, and their hope.
Thank you to everyone who has made me feel cared for over these last few days. My hope is that those who lost much or little find peace and optimism as they come together again.
I thank life for allowing me to enjoy those I love and for placing me in a privileged position, from which having an optimistic perspective can feel almost insulting to those who lost loved ones or things built through sacrifice and discipline.
I am certain that we will rise from this dark moment, and that Manizales’ well-deserved reputation as a cultured and warm city will only be strengthened through the generosity and resilience of our people.

Llegar a la finca de noche, después de hora y media de trancón en Neira y varias horas al volante desde Medellín, no es el comienzo más romántico. Hay que decirlo.

Arriving at the farm at night, after an hour and a half stuck in traffic in Neira and a long drive from Medellín, isn’t exactly the most romantic start. Let’s be honest.

Andrés —colombiano que vive en Suiza— venía con su pareja Luca, tres amigos italianos más, su cuñada y su sobrina. Llegaron cansados, enredados en el viaje y con la reserva de quien aún no sabe muy bien a dónde lo metieron.

Andrés—a Colombian living in Switzerland—came with his partner Luca, three Italian friends, his sister-in-law, and his niece. They arrived exhausted, worn out by the road, and with that natural hesitation of not knowing quite where they were ending up.

Pero la montaña tiene sus propios ritmos.

Dejaron los carros abajo en el colegio de Alto Bonito, los subimos a La Conejera —allá arriba donde el silencio pesa de otra forma—, les dimos de comer, nos sentamos a conversar y, sin darnos cuenta, el cansancio empezó a ceder.

They parked their cars down at the Alto Bonito school, and we brought them up to La Conejera—way up high where silence feels different. We served them dinner, sat down to talk, and before we knew it, the fatigue just melted away.

Al día siguiente la historia era otra: un buen desayuno con vista a la vereda, el recorrido por los cafetales, unas duchas de esas que reviven a cualquiera y una sesión con Yohn que terminó de explicarles —en taza— por qué el café de origen se toma sin afán.

The next morning was a whole different story: a fresh breakfast overlooking the valley, a walk through the coffee trees, warm showers that could revive anyone, and a cupping session with Yohn that explained—right in the cup—why single-origin coffee is meant to be savored slowly.
