The Chila Bags are hand-knitted in a geometric pattern by women from The Wayuu Tribe in Colombia; With their colorful patterns and long straps, these Wayuú bags are perfect for all seasons, for your travels around the world, or just down the block. For a day at the beach, a road trip with a friend, a BBQ, picnic or any summer event, it’s an ultimate all-season basic. The color and graphics are so bold that these babies don’t match with anything (i.e. they go with everything), and the shape looks great on any trendy outfit. If you’re not familiar, the Wayuú are an indigenous group of Latin-Americans whose traditions, culture and beliefs have managed to stay alive throughout the last centuries. We are working personally with the Wayuu women who hand make each bag, and have therefore cut out the middle men, making sure they are fairly paid, work in good conditions, and are taken care of. The popularity of these bags is a great thing for these women who sustain their villages’ economy by hand making these pieces and selling them. They are a labor of love. Each bag takes up to 40 hours of work, and all designs and color choices are unique.
