Djunta mo Art Fair trade created in Cabo Verde
Santa Maria - Ilha do Sal - Cabo Verde

Djunta Mo Art was created in 2013 on the island of Sal with the aim of developing a sustainable market in the archipelago and in particular of enhancing Cape Verdean art and culture in all its facets: food, fashion, crafts, natural cosmetics, pictorial and plastic art. In Cape Verde, local artisans face various difficulties, including the competition of industrial souvenirs coming mainly from the

foreign market. This has led the new generations to abandon craftsmanship and has resulted in the loss of many traditional processes and productions over the years. Djunta Mo Art is committed to helping artisans and supporting people to work in their own communities, making them economically autonomous, safeguarding local traditions and giving particular support to small artisans, women entrepreneurs, cooperatives (mainly women), young people with little training who have just entered the working world. Djunta Mo Art pays close attention to environmental and social issues, promotes objects created with recycled material and verifies that no products have been created through the exploitation of child labor. In particular, the objectives of the project are:

• Support the artisans, when required, throughout the production process, from creation to final sale (purchase of the material, enhancement of the product, guidance on the choice of the final price, etc.).

• Promotion and distribution of traditional products in the local and international market. Djunta Mo Art is also the official distributor of the OMCV (Women's Organization of Cape Verde) project “Mãos de Cabo Verde”, which comprises various women's cooperatives and employs more than two hundred people. Djunta Mo Art also supports the non-profit Association Nú Bai, providing an office for its headquarters as well as financial help. Many of the employees who work for the project and in the commercial area are young women who are offered training and improvement courses in foreign languages to put them on a path of continuous professional growth.

🌱 Let’s support the local economy.
Buying from artisans and small local producers keeps jobs, families, and traditions alive in our community. Less pollution, better quality.
Choosing Fair Trade products is an ethical choice: we ensure a fair price for those who produce, without exploitation.
Every purchase is a vote for a more human and sustainable world.

🌍 Pano di Terra (or Panu di Téra in Cape Verdean Creole, which literally means “cloth of the earth” or “fabric of the land”) is one of the most powerful symbols of Cape Verde’s cultural identity. 🇨🇻
Handwoven on traditional narrow looms, this cotton fabric is made in long, narrow strips that are then carefully joined together. Every single piece is unique — the small imperfections of the handmade process are what make it authentic and special.
Today, this ancient craft survives mainly on the island of Santiago, where master weavers still work on manual looms, using traditional cotton (often imported now), natural or industrial dyes, and patterns that range from the classic blue-and-white stripes to vibrant modern designs.
But Pano di Terra is much more than just a fabric.
It is a living story woven with history, slavery, resistance, cultural exchange, and identity. It tells how a Creole people took the knowledge brought by their African ancestors and transformed it into one of the strongest symbols of their uniqueness.
Proudly Cape Verdean. Deeply African. Beautifully ours. ❤️
