Kimchi by Non-Human Audio is now available!

Somewhere in mid 2024 I had an idea.

For all the schematics I have looked at over the years and all the ways I have seen people create distortion in circuits there was a method involved with transistor biasing (and thus potential fuzz level) that I’d never actually seen someone make adjustable. Why weren’t people doing that? Did it not work? Did it sound bad? I wanted to dig in and figure it out.

Turns out it not only worked but it sounded really cool and pretty unique, ranging from clangy and bitey overdrive all the way to an zippery and compressed fuzz, while maintaining a surprising amount of clarity along the way. So I designed the Kimchi around this idea and range of sounds.

Some settings will feel natural and chewy, some settings will feel beefy with aggressive high end, some settings will feel squishier with single notes but more open with chords.

[ʒʒʒʒ] is next Friday with a special guest: Krach der Roboter!

Krach der Roboter is a chunky piece of vintage artificial intelligence that prefers music over speech for communicating with humans and focuses on experimenting with sound as a method of generating interaction in a playful social situation.

Apart from crushing hand-selected bits of pre-programmed  samples, the robot likes to intertwine parts of algorithms of hardware, always searching for the path to break free from the man/machine duality by bending the circuits of consumer electronics.

Expect noisy lo-fi grooves and dreamy drones. And maybe a surprize, along with that.

Krach will answer questions concerning its external hardware that combines lots of wires and many modules, and sparkling pcbs of old fashioned gear that has been brought to life again.

Phil is an active amateur radio operator from Berlin. He makes some of his own gear and software, helps newcomers get into ham radio and streams his portable operations on Twitch.

[ʒʒʒʒ] is an event where everyone is welcome to share their music and sound-related experiments, projects and performances.

We make up a schedule on the spot. People sharing their work each have 10 minutes. There is a PA, a guitar amp and a projector available.

Special guests this time round are , a group of musicians focusing on the production and improvisational live performance of electronic music. They work in a broad spectrum of sounds - ranging from electroacoustic experiments to psychedelic Krautrock and Berlin school inspired melodies. Core members are Anna-Maria Van Reusel and Dennis Slypen.

Here's Hypno :)

Hypno is a dreamy delay with simple controls and a wide range of sounds.

The pedal goes all the way from clean, reverb-like slapback to noisy and crunchy repeats on longer time setting. The Lucidity (mix) k**b range is full dry to full wet. The Recall (repeats / regen) k**b brings the pedal all the way to the edge of self-oscillating, never actually crossing it. Time is Sink.

Happy to present another installment in the Beastly Series: Fur Face!

All the enclosures in the series have been designed by , all the pedals are available assembled or as a kit or a workshop.

This one is a classic fuzz. Stock they come with silicon BC108 transistors, but you can build and bias it with pretty much any combination of npn Qs. More info on that in the kit documentation!

Lizard Kisses is a color and texture device. With different clipping and brightness options, it can act as a boost, an overdrive, or a distortion. It stacks well with other pedals, responds to your playing, and is a classy beast all around!

It is available as an assembled pedal, as a workshop or as a kit.

The pedal was originally conceived for the workshops at Pedal Markt. The intention was to make it as easy to build and customize as possible.

The circuit is based around a discrete operational amplifier. Discrete means it’s built out of single transistors, as opposed to an integrated circuit aka a chip. You can find the schematic and the circuit breakdown in the build document.
