Dear Diggers,

one of our Japanese Partners and Friends, the legendary Live house "F.A.D. Yokohama" is struggling due to the Corona Situation.

http://www.fad-music.com/

F.A.D. is located in the center of Yokohama and there are to many Japanese bands that grew from F.A.D. They were making and supporting the Japanese Music scene since 1996.

https://camp-fire.jp/projects/view/261651

The crowdfunding is in Japanese so its difficult to read.
However, it would be great if you could support it. :)

Its also funny if someone from a foreign country does a crowdfuniding to a Japanese site because they dont expect it :)

F.A.D YOKOHAMAが新型コロナウイルス感染症拡大によるライブイベント中止,営業自粛により存続の危機を迎えております。大変心苦しいお願いではありますが、緊急支援をお願い致します。

Dear Customers!

we are taking the current situation very seriously and are reducing parts of our operational flow.

We are still shipping records under the hygiene safety instructions for everyone involved, as long as the shipping companies are taking our packages.

We hope that the situation gets under control as fast as possible.

It's been a couple weeks since we last got a full length post in and it appears that this will be the last one for the next little while. However, because of that there is a lot to catch you all up on, in terms of what's happening for us. There are a lot of records to show as we've been coming across some great new stuff!

One record we pulled out, that goes down super smooth is, "Come Along Home II" by Tatsuro Yamash*ta. This is a compilation of tracks that features interludes and overlays by Katsuya Kobayashi and Kamasami Kong, who add a lot of flavor to this one!

Another record that cropped up for us, was “Tokyo Barbarism” by Jun Togawa, who is both an actress and musician. While this one isn’t smooth in the same way as, “Come Along Home II”, it is an incredibly eccentric and unconventional ‘synthpop, new wave’ album. As well, Haruomi Hosono contributes bass to track four on the B side!

“A Penguin’s Memory”, is possibly the most bizarre thing that we have come across while grading records to post online yet, but in a good way! This record is actually a soundtrack for an anime film that is scored by none other than Seiko Matsuda! Reading about the film online was definitely one of the spaciest wormholes we’ve dove down on the internet. “A Penguin’s Memory” is a post war Vietnam Drama that deals with ‘Mike’s’ wartime trauma and amateur boxing career. From what we could dig up online the film deals in genres such as: sci-fi, horror and erotica and is told entirely with characters that are penguins. It appears to be available with English subtitles online, if any of this has piqued your curiosity!

Lastly, we found the “Original Best Hits [of] Teresa Teng”, which at first glance appears to be a rather normal ‘greatest hits’ record. However, the asking and median price of this record suggest it is anything but normal. It has a median selling price of 69.42 euros and available copies begin at 124.99 euros! Reading into this one showed that Teresa Tang or Deng Li Jun was an incredibly popular singer, who originally came from Taiwan and was one of the most well known singers across east Asia and Chinese Communities. Teng was a polyglot and sang in Mandarin, Cantonese, Japanese, French and Malay. She reached such a level of popularity that, according to one source we found, there is a Chinese saying about her which runs; “wherever there are Chinese people, there will be Teng’s songs”.

That’s all for now, take care,

Mion

This week came with some more good finds while grading and posting records online to our Discogs shop! There were some great collections of genres that we seldom see, which was a great way to switch things up, and had the added bonus of bolstering our online indie/alt rock stock. In other news, we have been keeping up with our newest trend of adding laser disc collections to our auctions, more on that later.

One collection that we came across recently was an alt rock or indie rock collection. What was cool about this was that just about all of the record that we went through were released in the 1990's. If you've had a browse through our stock before, you'll know that a lot of the records that we work with, in terms of rock and pop, are older than this, and are mainly records that were released between the 1960's and 80's. Another point of interest in the collection was that there were a lot of limited edition pressings, which included posters, photo inserts and other collectibles in that vein. A few band’s records that we decided to put in the photos were: Soundgarden and Screaming Trees but there were tons of other good names that we came across too, like The Smashing Pumpkins and The Cranberries.

It wasn't only in our records that we came across collectible items lately. While getting together laser disc collections for our weekly auctions we also came across a laser disc box set from the anime series, "Agent Aika". The box set came complete with: printed inner sleeves, a booklet, character cards, a key chain and an inflatable tube! Although not a box set, another laser disc that was awesome to find was, "Only Yesterday" and like our post from last week, that included "Princess Mononoke", this is another studio Ghibli film!

Lastly, a tip for anyone following our auctions, this week and next week we decided to focus more on the laser disc end of things. In particular, we ended up putting together collections made mostly of blockbuster films. Keep an eye for what comes online Sunday if that sounds like your jam ;)

Take care,

Mion

A couple changes to our auctions are in motion and we wanted to let you in on what is happening with that. As well, we had a couple records pop up that were worth snapping a photo of, and sharing, so here it goes!

“Ice Cream Castle” is the second album released by ‘The Time’ a funk band from Minneapolis. The record was released in 1984 and gets tagged by Discogs as, ‘Funk, Minneapolis Sound’. One fun fact about this group is that Prince wrote, played and produced for the group under the pseudonym ‘Jamie Starr’.

Another record released in 1984 that we came across was, “Wotupski!?!” by John ‘Jellybean’ Benitez. The album is tagged by Discogs as, ‘Electronic, Funk Soul, Electro, Freestyle’ and included an awesome inner sleeve. What made this inner special was that it included a ‘Graffiti Glossary’! If you don’t know and want to get the scoop on what ‘Whole-Cars’, ‘Fat-Caps’ or ‘Biters’ are give this one a look! :D

“The Ginza” is a compilation album with an incredible pull out insert that is several pages long detailing the district in Tokyo that it is named after and some of the buildings that are there!

Switching gears, there are a couple changes we’ve made to our auctions and what we will be auctioning off in the near future. One of the things that we have switched up with our auctions is that we have increased the size of the auction from 50 records to collections of 100 records now! What is new, that we have begun to auction off now, are laser discs!

We have been storing up laser discs for sometime now and have put together a huge amount of films and albums! That’s why this week we decided to share a couple pictures of highlights (“Ghost in the Shell” and “Princess Mononoke”) that we found to let you in on the kinds of things that we will be offering in the near future. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, so expect to see this sort of thing in the coming auctions!

Take care,

Mion
