STAFF PICK: Ben Lerner’s ‘Transcription’ 🔴
🖤 In Daniel and Anita’s words: A favorite for both of us in 2026. Lerner touches on prescient and contemporary themes- technology, communication, and the loss of face-to-face connection- alongside more universal topics of parenthood, friendship, art, and academia. All of these threads are seamlessly tied together through beautiful, detailed prose, unforgettable imagery, great dialogue, and an amazing use of the double- the mentor and the father, the student and the son, the present and the past self. This novel is a miracle of memory, affection, affinity, the flow between love and duty. An astounding, perfect ending; we both read it in one sitting and immediately wanted to read it again!
