This Bacterial-Martian bikini is an art edition created by artist Jenna Sutela and fashion designer Nhu Duong on the occasion of Sutela's show at Kunsthall Trondheim. The fabric features a colony of Bacillus subtilis nattō bacteria that inhabit our gut and, according to recent spaceflight experimentation, can survive on Mars. Here, the bacteria are seen through the eyes of an intelligent machine trained to predict their future movements as part of Sutela's nimiia cétiï project. The bikini invites wearers to tune into an 'oceanic feeling'.
