TBW Books 2024
Dylan Thomas Healy Hausthor TBW Books

TBW Books presents What the Rain Might Bring, the debut release from photographer Dylan Hausthor. Designed as a work of art in its own right, the book features a frame—black edge and spine printing—and is completely devoid of text with only a simple title on its cover. The minimalist design sets the stage for an immersive sensory experience that intertwines the tactile and the visual, drawing readers into a world steeped in mysticism.

Inspired by David Arora’s mushroom identification guide, Hausthor’s large-format black-and-white photographs explore the rich interplay between human, plant, and animal realms. What the Rain Might Bring delves into themes of storytelling, faith, folklore, and the inherent queerness of nature. The images evoke a sense of pagan, Wiccan, religious, anarchic, and mystic rituals, offering a visual exploration that is at once candid and full of hidden secrets.

Within Hausthor’s untamed world, characters and landscapes become conduits, weaving together new narratives that challenge perceptions of reality. The imagery—an owl mid-flight, a procession of figures, an infant nursing at its mother’s breast, a towering mushroom, and spiders in their webs—paints a world where human roles feel fragile, overshadowed by the dominance of nature. Each photograph oscillates between the eerie and enchanting, the humorous and the haunting.

Central to Hausthor’s work is a fascination with the instability of fact in storytelling. The viewer is drawn into a space where the line between truth and artistic license is deliberately blurred. Hausthor’s photography integrates elements of ad hoc investigative journalism, disinformation, and performance, disrupting traditional approaches to nature photography. The result is an exploration of a post-fact world, where the boundaries between parable and reality dissolve, leaving the viewer to question what they believe.

Time Isn’t Holding Us is the debut monograph of Joakim Möller (b. 1999). This collection offers a comprehensive visual journey, uniting the various facets of Möller’s practice; from traditional street photography to the surreal narratives created through his meticulous use of diptychs.

Joakim’s images capture striking urban moments through dramatic compositions and a distinctive use of black and white, drawing attention to the subtle tensions and poetry of everyday life. His photographs are not driven by a predefined message or theoretical framework; instead, they function as fragments of a personal visual diary.

Dennis Hopper - In Dreams
Damiani 2019

Dennis Hopper – In Dreams connects Dennis Hopper’s roles as an actor, husband, father and photographer. This intimate book presents a selection of more than 100 photographs from Hopper’s archive (most of them unpublished). They reveal the restless energy and curiosity of Hopper’s eye, as well as his unique place in the culture of 1960s America. An essayistic photobook, In Dreams mostly eschews Hopper’s iconic stand-alone images and instead looks to distill his archive into a connected set of photographs that offer new impressions and stories.

In Dreams includes appearances by famous faces such as John Wayne, Peter Fonda and Wallace Berman, which are intimately intertwined with Hopper’s peripatetic life and his daily use of the camera. Hopper was very much an insider—at ease with the celebrities and artists of his day—but this new engagement with his archive shows that, like many photographers, Hopper was also in some ways an outsider, an observer.

John Gossage’s LAMF: Three Days in Berlin, 1987, first conceived as a hand-assembled book exclusively for his friends, is a consummate example of the photobook as art.

Gossage used a custom telephoto lens and 6000 ASA film to shoot the area around the Berlin Wall and into the ‘no-man’s land’, capturing the dark atmosphere of a divided city. This new edition of LAMF, made in close collaboration with the photographer, features an expanded edit of 44 images (twice as many as the original) printed in lush tritone with special silkscreen UV varnish to emulate the original’s tipped on gelatin silver prints.

The book also comes with a new interview with publisher Jordan Weitzman about the book’s genesis and Gossage’s long fixation on Berlin, also the subject of his acclaimed books Stadt des Schwarz and Berlin in the Time of the Wall.

What was once one of the rarest books in Gossage’s oeuvre, can now be had by all: a masterpiece of the photobook medium by one of its most prolific practitioners, and a moving artifact of Cold War history.

Ryan Spencer - There Is No Light at the End of the Tunnel Because the Tunnel Is Made of Light
TBW Books 2024

In 1996, rock band The Afghan Whigs released their album Black Love, a musical opus that changed the lives of many of the group’s loyal followers. The well-known lore that a film would accompany the record never came to fruition, leaving devotees to wonder what such a visual accompaniment might have looked like. There Is No Light at the End of the Tunnel Because the Tunnel Is Made of Light is Ryan Spencer’s personal rendering of this mythical film (that never was) in book form. Using stills from neo-noir films set in Los Angeles that could quite possibly exist as scenes from the imagined moving picture, and with a keen understanding of and appreciation for photography and old cinema, the artist stitches together a narrative directed by the song titles and linear narratives of The Afghan Whigs’ epic record. Rebecca Bengal’s fictional essay anchors the book’s stylized, physical “pulp” qualities.

Maria Lax - Stray Sod (signed)
Setanta Books 2026

Stray Sod investigates the phenomenon of the same name in Irish folklore: enchanted patches of earth that will lead astray whoever steps on them. Inspired by first-hand accounts found in the Irish National Archives, Maria Lax reimagines rural Irish landscapes through this otherworldly lens.

The stories therein describe instances in which individuals are forced to navigate a world characterised by sudden shifts into unfamiliarity and strangeness. A world in which established reference points distort and slip away, causing great distress to those experiencing it. Stray Sod draws timely parallels between these stories and the destabilizing effects of the fast-changing political and technological environment of today.
