The Albanian Files Freedom and Architecture

Albania is a young democracy, home to nearly three million people. The country sits at the heart of the Mediterranean; its geographic location has long shaped the country’s cultural exchanges and built environment. Three decades after the collapse of the communist regime, Albania remains in transition – culturally, socially and architecturally. This ongoing renewal has placed architecture at the center of national discourse and created a specific opportunity for architects. “The Albanian Files” focuses on that transformation.

This book brings together sixty international offices currently working in Albania, some of which have been active in the country since the early 2000s. Each office submitted a contribution with reflections on their experiences in Albania and on architecture built and proposed.

if you read this is a multidisciplinary project about the human desire for connection. It consists of three interconnected parts: a text publication, an EP with text-based (electronic) soundtracks, and a live performance. Each part reinforces the others, contributing to a layered narrative about proximity, absence, and the fragile nature of human contact. The starting point is a personal experience of “ghosting” — an abruptly broken-off relationship without explanation — which serves as a catalyst for broader reflection on how communication, intimacy, and loss relate to the structures of our digital existence. By combining self-written texts and found fragments (both online and offline), a new narrative emerges at the intersection of literature, performance, and sound art.

‘Close is a magazine that collects four written pieces; narrative essays, interviews and memoir. With an “anti-individualism” philosophy, I explore culture and spaces through a personal lens. Although everything is written from my own perspective, the project aims to remind us how deeply we resemble one another: that very few thoughts or experiences are truly original, and that there is something beautiful in the way human beings are naturally connected.
All of the project is one-woman made; from the textes and design to the printing, binding, and trimming of each copy. It is all created by hand in my home.’
