mundo azul windows

Some of our windows and our work with picture books in the past years…all curated by myself and , who captures the potential of books as social, political and aesthetical mediators and places them in our window as if they were trees, talking to each other.

It’s not easy to display positive narratives or bubbles in children’s literature through picture books in a country like Germany today, where many (not only) children’s authors and illustrators are being censored for speaking out and talking about Palestine and genocide in the German context. Still, we wanted to speak beyond social media, by bringing books that open the dialogue in schools, libraries, and public spaces. Thanks so much to all of you who support mundo azul and the narratives we share!

The Keeper of Wild Words
By Brooke Smith
Illustrated by Madeline Kloepper

Let us not forget the language that inspires mindfulness of the natural world. Words like Wren, Acorn, Dandelion, Doe, and Porcupine have been erased from the Oxford Junior Dictionary and replaced with words deemed more relevant like Analog, Database, Vandalism, and Chatroom. Based on this premise, the author weaves a story built to protect the beauty of lost wild words, inviting each of us to become a Keeper of Wild Words ourselves.

For anyone feeling exhausted by the incessant noise and pressures of life, this book is for you. Its pages offer a gentle landscape where one can rekindle awareness of life’s simplest, and most often overlooked, treasures to the soul. Drawn from the imagination of Nobel Prize winner Olga Tokarczuk and masterfully illustrated by , the story of a soul’s return to simplicity and wholeness comes alive in the mind of the reader, creating space for each person to taste the sweetness of such a journey themselves.

Clic is a collective of women in children’s publishing that aims to assure bibliodiversity in Chile, to give different voices and narratives a chance to be represented together.

I was lucky to meet some of these enthusiasts this year. It’s so encouraging to see children’s book women publishers work together. Many thanks for this engagement!

We have many titles of these 10 publishing houses from Chile in mundo azul. Next year we’ll be collaborating to give more visibility to Chilean and Latin American creators in Germany. Contact or visit us in Berlin to know more!

“Durga Bai Vyam and Subhash Singh Vyam are talented artists from Bhopal, India. They were both born in the Pradhan family of the Gond tribe. In the village Madhya Pradesh. Durga was traditionally trained in Dhigna (Decorative patterns on wall & floor) making at home. After her marriage to Subhash Singh Vyam, who is an amazing sculptor & painter, they both came to Bhopal and continued their skills on Gond art form, invented by Late Jangan Singh Shyam. Being gifted with traditional knowledge, they often depict Pardhan myths where they are able to exhibit a perfect balance of narrative with color and line.
They both continue working together and exhibiting on a national & international platform”.

The person telling me about Durga and Subhash is their enthusiastic daughter, Roshni, an artist herself, who is now busy with some artwork as part of her residency at .initiative . She brought many original paintings from her parents and many stories to share. Roshni will be in Berlin and at Spore in Neukölln until March 10th. If you are interested in some of the artists’ work, please contact her directly at

Roshni’s new book coming out soon!

Sonja Danowski’s new book tells a story of love and gratitude. We feel love and gratitude for the poetic words and pictures she gives us as gifts for the eyes and soul.

She truly connects with every detail depicted in the book. A pleasure to read it!

"DIE TAGE, BEVOR JARON KAM”

By Sonja Danowski

Published by Bohem Press in German

„Freitag, 2.

"For centuries, illustrious doctors have tried to find the ultimate weapon against disease: from hot broth to injections, even injections of hot broth! As tasty as they are useless.
But everything is not lost, in this fantastic and incredible encyclopedia, if you read carefully; you may find cures and remedies against new and unsuspected illnesses. We prescribe that you read it carefully, preferably with your scarf on and with a bowl of cooked broth. Just in case, put a scarf on the chicken before cooking it as well”.
