This book looks at how artists from the global south are working with photographs from the colonial era to revisit their own histories. Blending personal memory with collective experience, they transform archival images through collage, film, textiles, and sculpture.

What emerges isn’t just reflection on the past, but a way of reshaping and reclaiming memory and stories and who gets to tell them.

Charlotte Dumas and her father used to go to the zoo to draw the elephants. They would sit, look closely, and translate what they saw onto paper—his drawings careful and detailed, hers alongside.

Over time, as his dementia progressed, the drawings began to change. The lines loosened, the forms dissolved, until the elephants became dark, almost abstract shapes—black paint blobs that still carried a strange kind of presence.

This book follows that shift with great care. It becomes less about drawing elephants and more about watching a relationship transform, tracing how an illness reshapes perception, memory, and the way two people continue to meet each other through making.

Just came in and already nearly sold out: the latest—and last—publication of Exactitudes!

If you don’t know Exactitudes yet, you’re in for a treat. Since 1994, it has documented what people wear and sorted it into categories. The outcome is astonishing. It’s not just a record of trends, subcultures, and visual codes, but also a reminder: no matter how individualistic we try to be—from normcore-not-at-all to extremely-yes-underground-niche—there is always someone dressed exactly the same.

Presented in their signature grid, Ari Versluis and Ellie Uyttenbroek map the ultimate paradox: wanting to stand out, while fitting right in.

Magdalene Odundo shapes clay into vessels that feel at once ancient and unmistakably contemporary. Born in Kenya and based in Britain, she draws on a wide range of ceramic traditions — African, European, Asian, Indigenous American — absorbing them into a visual language that is truly her own.

Do you remember the last time you were looking forward to the future? A credible vision of a better time to come?

This book looks back to the 1960s and ’70s, tracing the visual language of revolt and solidarity across movements from Paris to Tokyo, Cuba to Milan, where radical politics and graphic design once formed a powerful alliance. Through iconic images and the figures behind them, it revisits a moment when social struggle was inseparable from visual imagination—and asks what it would take for that creative force to return.

Radical Media Archive is here to tell you that fighting for a better world is, in fact, not only extremely cool, but the coolest thing you can do — and it has the images to prove it!
