For the jazz drummers... And if you play funk, fusion or soul, don’t scroll past. These will find a place in your sound too.
Turkish Cymbals has dozens of series, which honestly makes choosing harder, not easier. If you’ve been going back and forth trying to work out which one suits the way you actually play, you’re not alone. We get this question most weeks.
These six are where most players in that space end up. Swipe through and read the notes under each one.
And you don’t have to take our word for it. Every cymbal on our site can be played and compared right on its product page. No app, no signup.
Still stuck between two? Comment or send us a message. Happy to help you narrow it down.
JAZZ
The most traditional voice here. Both sides get hammered hard, then deep dents go into the top before it’s lathed. That’s where the sensitivity comes from. Huge range of expression, and it stays musical whether you’re on brushes or digging in.
VINTAGE SOUL
Wide lathing circles and fine lines. Looks like it came off a 60s kit, but the sound is modern and clear. Warm with a good stick, and it stays controlled instead of washing out. Sits just as well behind a soul or funk groove as it does in a quartet.
DARK HAMMER
An unusual acid treatment gives it that striped finish, with just a narrow lathed band at the edge. Dark and dry under the stick with a woody ping. Medium-thin leaning towards thin, so it opens up fast and stays controlled.
MILLENIUM
Lightly polished, nowhere near high gloss, so it keeps its own character. Thin enough to open up fast, with tight centre lathing keeping everything balanced. Controlled and warm in any acoustic setting.
PRESTIGE-TR
Built for jazz drummers from the start. Hammered densely by hand and only lightly lathed, then darkened with a special process. Matte black, completely unlacquered. That combination is where the darkness and the dryness come from. Short sustain, clear stick, soft ping.
XANTHOS-JAZZ
The hybrid. Raw bell, lathed centre, hard-hammered unlathed edge, and a fully lathed polished underside that pushes the projection. Warm and controlled with plenty of colour.
