Prototyping Review | Capturing melting chocolate with Auto UX rigor
After nearly a decade in Automotive UX design, I’m used to scrutinizing logic and interactions. But the inspiration for this coffee cup set was actually quite emotional: I wanted to capture the playful, warm, and comforting visual moment of chocolate melting and flowing.
Bringing this "melting" sensation perfectly to life relied on two key details:
Glaze Tuning: Repeatedly testing formulas to recreate the silky texture and rich depth of real chocolate.
Optimizing the "Manufacturing Experience": The casual, flowing edges made the saucer unstable to hold during hand-glazing. After 3D print validation, we went back to fine-tune the CAD parameters of the base. We created a steadier grip point for the craftsmen, structurally preventing glaze pooling and unevenness.
"Think like a child, craft like an artisan."
Capturing a moment with intuition, and grounding that emotion with a rigorous approach. This is the sincerity I wanted to express through this product. 🤎
