The moon lamp 🌝

The Moon Lamp from 1960 (originally produced by Louis Poulsen) was one of Panton’s earliest luminaires and one of his most poetic works. It consists of ring-shaped aluminium blades positioned in a way that they can be adjusted, providing glare-free, indirect lighting without a visible lightbulb. Some of the glare-free light is reflected from the inner side of the blades; some of it filters through the gaps. The Moon Lamp justifiably takes its name from its shape and the “moonglow” quality of light emanating from it. In the photo, behind Verner and the lamp, we can see the “Geometry” design (produced by Unika Vaev), one of Verner’s best-known textile designs. The pattern consists of circles and squares that are arranged in differing proportions. The textile was a bobbin weave of mixed synthetic fibres. Verner received early recognition for his textile designs and experiments with patterns. In 1963 he received the International Design Award (IDA) for his carpets, rugs and Geometry I and II upholstery fabrics. —— 📷 ©️Verner Panton Design www.verner-panton.com
