Einzelne CSC Modelle sind noch bei uns erhältlich!
Ship waterline miniatures in a scale of 1:1250 are at the origin of the whole Peter Tamm collection, and as such, of the International Maritime Museum Hamburg. The most detailed miniatures of this kind are probably the ones produced by the CSC workshop (Classic Ship Collection).
The company was founded in Hamburg by Gerd Schön in 1996. He realised that some collectors of ship miniatures were ready to pay for the higher costs of highly detailed works. To reach that level of detail, their miniatures were built from a larger number of smaller parts instead of producing most of them from a single form. They also worked with a special alloy that contains no led whatsoever. To make the process profitable, they produced at least 80 units of every miniature. Apart from the model they made for the collectors’ market, they also worked with shipping companies and shipyards. In those cases, the miniatures were high end presents for customers and business partners. The CSC workshop created over 400 different miniatures over their existence.
In 2013, the owner of the Hamburg shipmodel store Galerie Maritim, Jan Müller, joined the company. Jan has cooperated with our museum for years too. The founder Gerd Schön retired in 2015. The workshop kept producing until 2024. The rising of production costs followed by a decreasing demand, and also the ageing of some of the people involved in the production, forced then to stop the business. In their 28 years of existence, CSC have created an impressive legacy and their miniatures will surely still be sought after objects for collectors for years to come. The specialised bookshop of the museum, WEDE Fachbuchhandlung für Schifffahrt und Verkehrswesen im IMMH , has a few of the CSC models for sale.
Our museum own an extensive collection of the CSC works. Most of them were are shown in a special display on deck 9, from which this picture was taken. Those who have followed our posts for a while May recognise how we have already singled out many of those models here to tell the story of the vessel they represent.
