A Gibson Dove from the transitional period between the late 1960s and early 1970s – built during one of the finest eras in Gibson’s history, just before the onset of the Norlin years.
This guitar dates to late 1969 or early 1970. While the serial number and "Made in USA" stamp suggest early 1970, the absence of a volute and the presence of a one-piece X-bracing clearly point to a 1969 build. Tonally, it delivers the open, vibrant sound typical of the lighter bracing construction of the ’60s, with brilliant highs, strong mids, and a defined low end.
Featuring a solid Sitka spruce top and maple back and sides, the Dove produces a bright, direct tone. It remains fully original – including bridge, pickguard, and tuners – and offers excellent playability thanks to a low action. A discreetly installed K&K Pure Mini pickup captures the guitar’s natural acoustic voice.
A vintage instrument with character, history, and a powerful voice.
