In 2017, a university employee in Rome took time off to care for her sick English Setter, and won the legal battle that followed. 🐶
But what was the argument about? That leaving a suffering animal alone isn't just heartbreaking. Under Italian law, it could actually be considered a criminal offense.
That ruling set a precedent. And now, Italy is taking it further, as a bill is currently being proposed to formally grant workers paid leave to care for a sick pet. Up to three days a year, with a vet certificate.
It's a small shift on paper. But what it says is big: pets are family. And no one should have to choose between their paycheck and their animal.
Maybe a kinder world is built exactly like this: one small act of care at a time.
Have you ever taken time off work to care for your pet? 🐾
