Today's the day: Vanilla Silk Sock Kits are now available in the shop and I couldn't be more excited to share them with you. I am so proud of how these socks turned out and hope they'll keep your feet warm and cozy for a good long time to come.

Kits come in two different sizes and include all the yarn you'll need to knit your socks as well as a digital copy of the pattern and a bag of Vanilla flavored tea for you to sip while you knit. There's a limited number of kits in each size and colorway option so if you've got your eye on a specific color pop by the shop today and have a look!

Okay friends, it’s time to share about this very special project, coming to the shop next week: Meet the new fi*****ng weight version of the Vanilla Silk Socks!🍦✨

If you've been following along with our work for awhile, you may remember that two years ago I published a very special ebook collection all about knitting socks using natural wool. The Ebook (which was called 🧦) was a major passion project for me. It featured three original sock patterns as well as articles, interviews, and all my best tips & tricks for knitting socks using non-superwash, no nylon wool. My absolute favorite pattern in the collection was the Vanilla Silk Socks, a dk weight slipper sock pattern that I designed in collaboration with Catherine from We are KAL.

One of the number one pieces of feedback I received about that pattern was that the amount of yarn required to knit the socks made the project quite expensive. Both Catherine and I create small batch, locally produced yarns (hers are even handspun!) so there's not much we can do about the cost of the actual materials. But I did get to thinking about the possibility of tweaking the pattern slightly to decrease the yardage and creating some kind of kit that would hopefully make it a little more affordable.

Enter the fi*****ng weight version of the Vanilla Silk Socks! This time around I worked with a different yarn from the We are KAL shop, a handspun 100% Eri Silk thread that can be held all the way through along with one strand of our own sock weight yarn Nord. I actually PREFER the fi*****ng weight version of the pattern to the original and knew a re-launch would be in order. That is why I am happy to share that Catherine and I have worked together to create a limited number of kits for you to make your very own pair of Vanilla Silk socks in this new iteration of the pattern and these are coming to the shop next Tuesday, Feb 28th.

I can’t wait to share them with you and hope you’ll love this new version as much as I do 🍦🧦✨

Do you guys remember the 2104 Hat pattern from the release of our very first batch of Unspun last spring? It's one of my favorite unspun projects so far and one I think is so perfectly suited for anyone new to knitting with this kind of yarn that I have re-worked the kit to make it even more suitable to beginner knitters!

The new version of the kit still comes with all the yarn you’ll need to knit your own 2104 Hat, with the important difference that the 100g of Unspun 2109 is now in the form of two 50g cakes so you can easily knit with it held double without having to do any prep work.
Of course the kit also includes a digital copy of my ebook Knitting with Unspun, which includes both the pattern as well as some bonus information and my top three tips for a successful experience working with unspun yarns.

Of course, this is a great option if you've never knit with unspun yarn before and are looking for a little extra support before tackling your first project, though it would be a fun project for more experienced knitters too 😉

Please note: the hat in the photo has been knit using Unspun 2104, which was our first batch of this yarn from last Spring. The yarn we've currently got in the shop is Unspun 2109 which has the same yardage - though a slightly different fiber mix and colorway from 2104.

All orders placed during the winter break have now shipped 📦✨

Thank you SO much for your continued support while I was away, it’s so appreciated. I’ve been easing back into things rather slowly this week but we are now back to our standard turn around time of 3-5 business days if you’d like to get yourself some yarn.

We’re fully stocked in both and our sock weight yarn Nord is still shipping with the limited anniversary ball bands (swipe to see) for the next few months.

Here's a friendly holiday season reminder that your favorite small business owner is a human being too!

It's a busy and stressful time for so many of us and I know that it can be difficult to plan gift giving around shipping times and packaging concerns. However, a lot of us solo small business owners are doing the best we can and most of us really do care about fixing mistakes and getting packages to you as quickly as possible.

So be kind and understanding when you can and thank you for shopping small this holiday season ❤️

PS. The cut off date for shipping before the holidays in our own online shop is Sunday, Dec 18th. All orders placed after that date will ship in the new year.

Sometimes, despite careful planning and swatching a project just doesn’t work out, a reality many of us knitters know and have learned to embrace as part of the process 🧶✨

While it’s frustrating for sure, it doesn’t have to be the end of the world. One of the top questions I get about our new Unspun yarns is about ripping back or taking apart a project if it’s not working for you. Can you even do it, and if so, how?

While I can of course only share about my own experience, I must admit that I’ve found ripping back to be much much easier than expected. What I do is rip back a full row at a time and then wind the yarn tail onto the ball - rather than winding up as I go, as I normally would. I find the yarn is less likely to break that way. And as an added bonus, I end up with a ball of double stranded yarn that’s perfect to knit from next time around!

So if you make a mistake, or decide you’d like to cast on something different don’t worry! Just take it slow and you should be fine.

Just before Christmas last year, I created a limited number of these Mystery Boxes as gift ideas for the holiday season and you guys really loved them. I had such a fun time putting them together that I've decided to bring them back, updated and tweaked as part of our anniversary sale last month. Each box contains both yarn & a digital pattern all for a discounted price - the fun part being of course that you don't know exactly what you'll get!

Nothing says cozy in my opinion like hand knit socks, and these ones are right up there among my favorites.
