Nachhaltig in der Schweiz gefertigt, aus CNC-gefrästem Aluminium und gemeinsam mit Menschen mit Beeinträchtigungen produziert. Wir waren von der Idee so überzeugt, dass es den Schnurschlucker jetzt sogar exklusiv in ADH-Blau gibt.

Spey Casting with Gordon Armstrong - Part 3

The forward cast is only as efficient as the path of the rod tip.

From the beginning of the forward stroke to the final stop, the rod tip should travel on a straight track. This creates parallel loops, efficient energy transfer and accurate presentations.

If the rod tip moves sideways or deviates off its straight track, casting efficiency decreases and tailing loops become much more likely.

A straight track, smooth acceleration and a precise stop are the final ingredients of a clean Spey cast.

Spey Casting with Gordon Armstrong - Part 2 of 3

A solid stance and controlled body rotation create the foundation for consistent Spey casting. Start in a stable position, with the foot on the upper-hand side already pointing in the casting direction.

After your fly has swung into the dangle, maintain this position and begin the slow lift. As the sweep starts, rotate your body smoothly towards the target.

When your body, rod, D-loop and anchor align naturally, the cast becomes more consistent, efficient and repeatable. The movement comes from the whole body—not just the arms.

A good Spey cast doesn’t start with power. It starts with patience.

One of the most common mistakes Gordon Armstrong sees is rushing the lift. But this first movement sets the foundation for everything that follows. A fast lift often removes tension from the line too early, making it harder to build an efficient cast.

Instead, begin with a slow, controlled lift and let it flow naturally into the sweep. This allows the rod to load progressively, keeps the line under tension and creates smooth, effortless momentum.
