Habeetats Habeetats produce natural nesting shelters for solitary bees

Anthropogenic climate change and current land-use practices demand that all we work to protect and appreciate our native pollinators. Bees and flowering plants are co-evolutionary and have evolved since the Cretaceous period (100 million years ago). In contrast homo sapiens have logged mere 200.000 years on planet Earth! In short life as we know it depends on a multitude of flowering plants and be

e diversity. Solitary bees make up more 90% of the 20.000 bee species World Wide. These gentle creatures not only provide vital pollination services in agriculture they also play a key role in maintaining biodiversity in nature. What that solitary bees need most of all is suitable nesting opportunities, floral diversity and increased awareness of their importance.

While wild bee species are declining ...

“If you overcrowd any space with honey bees, there is a competition for natural resources, and since bees have the largest numbers, they push out other pollinators, which actually harms biodiversity,” he said, after a recent visit to the B&B bees. “I would say that the best thing you could do for honey bees right now is not take up beekeeping.”

Still, the save-the-bees narrative persists. Its longevity stems from confusion about what kind of bees actually need to be rescued. There are more than 20,000 species of wild bees in the world, and many people don’t realize they exist. That’s because they don’t produce honey and live all but invisibly, in ground nests and cavities like hollow tree trunks. But they are indispensable pollinators of plants, flowers and crops.

Researchers have found that many species of wild bees are, in fact, declining. So trying to save them makes eminent sense. But hobbyists and corporations, not to mention luminaries like Beyoncé and Queen Camilla, are drawn only to the seven or so species of honey bees — the one group supported by a multibillion-dollar agribusiness and that doesn’t need the help."

In Slovenia and around the world, conservationists try — and mostly fail — to combat the widespread belief that honey bees are in danger.

Just released a batch of solitary bee cocoons into the garden at Banegaarden after overwintering them in my wine fridge. With climate change causing unpredictable weather patterns, it's more important than ever to hedge asynchrony between bee emergence and flower blossoms. By taking this small but meaningful step, habeetats is doing its part to support these important pollinators and ensure the health of our ecosystem. Let's all work together to make a positive impact on our planet.

Spring tour at with Mr Islam and Dr Amr Sabbahy. Mr Islam is the go to bee guy at Sekem and doing great work protecting native Egyptian bee species (Apis mellifera lamarcki), the first domisticated honey bee species. We also set up a habeetats Utzon edition with Mr Islam and farmers to trap nest solitary bees.

In both gardens, nature and agriculture, insect pollinators play a crucial role in fertilizing flowering plants so they can mature into seeds and propagate their species. There exists in more than 20.000 bee species Worldwide and approximately 90% of these are solitary bees. The diversity of bees an...

Our living seed and pollinator pilot is now up and running in Vantaa, Finland. The first Finish node in our pollinator conservation Network. The 3 colors each represent a climate scenario and can be used to explore the effects of climate change on solitary bee populations. Because solitary bee are ectothermic insects thier body metabolism is regulated by an external source of heat, ie the Sun. The Black nest therefore represent a future scenario, while neutral = present day/baseline conditions, and white a colder pasttime. Besides climate change, pollinator diversity is increasingly threatened by anthropogenic landuse and unsustainable consumption practices. With 40% of bee species currently at risk of extinction we’re headed towards an uninhabitale World without biodiversity and nutritious foods. Bee the change and help solitary bees thrive habeebees ❤️✌️🐝🌸
