Hydrating Oil or Lush Repair Oil... which one is right for you? 🌿

It's one of the questions we hear most often, so we thought we'd make a simple guide.

💧 Choose Hydrating Oil if you want...
• A lightweight oil for everyday moisture.
• Fast absorption without feeling heavy.
• Help with dry dreadlocks or an itchy scalp.

🌿 Choose Lush Repair Oil if you want...
• A richer treatment for dry, stressed dreadlocks.
• Extra nourishment after summer or after a detox.
• A deeper care ritual whenever your hair needs it.

Many of our customers keep both in their routine - using Hydrating Oil regularly and reaching for Lush Repair Oil whenever their dreadlocks need a little extra care.

If you'd like to read more about both oils, you'll find the links in the comments 💚

Summer can be tough on your dreadlocks ☀️

Whether you've spent your summer at festivals, by the beach or simply enjoying the sunshine, your dreadlocks and scalp may need a little extra care.

In this reel, we share two simple ways to use our Hydrating Oil:
• Add a few drops to your dreadlocks to help restore moisture.
• Apply it to your scalp before washing your hair for a nourishing pre-wash treatment.

If your scalp already loves Herbal Cleanser Shampoo or Greenie Genie... this might be worth a look 🌿

Our Hair De-Greasing Oil has made one unexpected return.

When we thought it was gone for good, we discovered we still had just enough of the organic ingredients left to make one final small batch. Rather than letting them go to waste, we decided to produce one last run.

Used before shampooing, the oil helps dissolve excess sebum and oily build-up, making it easier for your shampoo to wash everything away.

It can be a great choice if you:
• have an oily scalp shortly after washing
• struggle with greasy build-up
• want a gentle weekly scalp reset

Follow with Herbal Cleanser Shampoo or Greenie Genie Shampoo Bar for a fresh, balanced scalp.

Only a few bottles are available, and once they're gone, we don't know if or when this treatment will return 💚

Meet "Betty" 💚

Betty's dreadlocks are around 10 months old.

This is the stage where many people begin wondering if their dreadlocks are doing what they're supposed to. They're not brand new anymore - but they're not fully mature yet either.

Loose hairs, little loops, uneven ends and quirky shapes are all completely normal at this point in the journey.

After a maintenance appointment, a loctician can help tidy loose hairs, new growth and those little "butterflies." But the biggest change still comes with time, as dreadlocks naturally become denser and more even.

Have your dreadlocks surprised you during the first year? We'd love to hear about your experience 💚

New dreadlocks? 💚

Getting dreadlocks is exciting - but it can also feel a little overwhelming.

Suddenly everyone has an opinion about what you should do, what products you need, and what you should avoid.

The truth is that your first routine can stay surprisingly simple.

✔ Wash with a residue-free shampoo.
✔ Keep your scalp hydrated with water-based products.
✔ Make palm rolling your new best friend.
✔ Protect your dreadlocks while you sleep.
✔ Learn the basics before moving on to more advanced maintenance.

That's exactly why we created our Exclusive Dreadlock Starter Kit. It brings together the same simple routine we recommend for new dreadlocks, so you don't have to figure everything out on your own.

If you'd like to understand why we recommend this routine, you'll find our beginner guide in the comments below 💚

Ready for the next step? 💚

After sharing our beginner guides on palm rolling and using a crochet hook, many of you asked how to maintain your roots.

In this video, we show one of the techniques to strengthen new growth and keep the roots of your dreadlocks looking neat.

This isn't a technique we'd recommend starting with on day one. It's much easier once you're already comfortable using a crochet hook, so if you're new to dreadlocks, we'd suggest watching our crochet hook guide first.

As always, work gently. The goal isn't to force the hair into place - it's simply to guide loose hairs back into the dreadlock without damaging them.

Have you tried maintaining your own roots yet? 💚

Meet “Abby” 💚
Abby has both mature and young dreadlocks on the same head.
Making her the perfect example of how dreadlocks naturally mature over time.

Abby didn’t get all her dreadlocks at once.
She added new ones over the past year.
Today, every section is at a different stage of the journey.

Can you spot the difference?
The younger dreadlocks have more loose hairs, a more playful shape and lots more personality.
They also have more of these little loops...

We call them “butterflies” 🦋
They’re a completely normal part of the journey and become less noticeable as dreadlocks mature.

Everything you’re seeing here is completely normal. 💚
Young dreadlocks are meant to look a little wild.

Over time they’ll naturally become denser, smoother and more even. Until then, regular maintenance can help keep loose hairs, new growth and little “butterflies” under control.

How to use a crochet hook without damaging your dreadlocks. 🌱

Learning to maintain your own dreadlocks takes practice - but it should never mean pulling or breaking your hair.

When using a crochet hook, the goal isn't to pull the hair through the dreadlock. Instead, gently work the loose hairs back inside and let the hook release naturally.

A few tips:

✔ Hold the loose hairs between your fingers.
✔ If the hook catches, gently wiggle it free - don't pull.
✔ Focus on careful movements rather than speed.

Good technique will always matter more than speed.

If you're new to dreadlocks, we've just published a complete beginner's guide covering everything from washing and palm rolling to what you can expect during your first year.

Palm rolling is one of the best habits you can build when your dreadlocks are new.

It helps loose hairs find their place and encourages your dreadlocks to mature naturally over time.
We use Tightening Spray in this video because it adds grip and makes palm rolling easier.
If your new dreadlocks feel dry, you can use Tightening Gel instead. It provides water-based hydration while still supporting the tightening process.

A few tips:

✔ Palm roll a little every day if you can.
✔ It's especially effective when your dreadlocks are towel dry after washing.
✔ In this video we're using our Tightening Spray to add grip and help control loose hairs, but Tightening Gel works just as well if your new dreadlocks need extra hydration.
✔ Once you've practiced the technique, you can comfortably palm roll several dreadlocks at the same time.

Remember - it's not about rolling hard or fast. Gentle, consistent palm rolling over time gives the best results.
A few minutes of palm rolling each day can make a big difference during the first months.

Save this video for your next wash day 💚
