Merlin A/S Founded 1926 as the Merlin family's photo studio in Odense, Merlin A/S evolved to a national retaile

Founded as a Magnus Merlin photographic studio in Odense in 1926 the company started selling photographic articles in the 40's. When Magnus' son, Mogens Merlin entered the business in 1966. In the 70's and 80's the company grew rapidly and become a national retailer in consumer electronics. In the early 90's FDB bought a significant stake in the business and the company grew to become one of the 300 largest companies in Denmark. As the company had been running large losses for decades FDB sold the company to a consortium of Icelandic venture capitalists in 2005. Under the new ownership new stores were opened and unprofitable units were sold off. Administration expense was halved and the company had a positive outlook until the big recession where it become impossible for the Icelandic owners to support the business. In October 2008 Expert Danmark A/S acquired the business and re-branded the stores to Expert but kept Merlin on as their leading webshop.
