Be gentle on your skin
Scrubbing too hard leaves skin rough and red. Don't fight with your face. Skip harsh scrubs and even washcloths, which can be too rough on your face and can cause irritation, which in turn, can make you more susceptible to breakouts. If you use your hands, be sure they're clean, or you'll transfer acne-causing dirt and oil right back onto your face.

Don't skip your morning wash
Hairstyling products get absorbed by your pillowcase then transfer to your skin — if it's not cleared away in the am, it'll clog your pores all day long. For your before-school wash, try something brightening that'll help wake up your skin. If you have a hard time getting up in the morning, a cooling face wash can help you really look alive. Test out the Bioré Blemish-Fighting Ice Cleanser. It literally cools your skin as it cleans.

Cleanse your way to clearer skin: How to choose the right products for you

STEP away from the cleansing wipes, advises Harley Street beauty and anti-ageing expert Lesley Reynolds. Use these creams and facial washes instead...

When women come to me for skin advice I always ask them about their cleansing routine. Virtually everyone I meet admits to using face wipes, which always makes me groan.

If I had my way they would be banned from every bathroom.

Wipes may have revolutionised the beauty industry (sales have trebled over the last few years and, yes, they come in handy when you’re on the go or after a very late night) but they cannot and should not replace a proper cleansing routine.

For starters many wipes contain potent ingredients such as high levels of alcohol, which can strip the complexion of its natural oils and cause excessive dryness. Others may contain MI (methylisothiazolinone), a preservative, which has been proven to cause rashes and allergies.

Moist cloths packed on top of each other can be a breeding ground for bacteria so for this reason many contain high levels of preservatives. Finally, when using them, the majority of women are far too heavy handed, rubbing them vigorously all over the face and tugging at the delicate skin around the eyes which can accelerate the ageing process and even cause more wrinkles and bags.

HOW TO CLEANSE YOUR FACE CORRECTLY DEPENDING ON YOUR SKIN TYPE

Cleansing is the first and most important step in any skincare routine. While it seems like the easiest thing to do with no special skills required, did you know, each skin type needs to be treated and washed differently? But fret not, we’re going to teach you how to wash your face the right way depending on your skin type. Take a look…

Apart from cleansing your face twice a day, you should also wash your face before and after physical activities such as workouts, dance, etc. When you work out, the pores on your skin expand, inviting dirt and grime to pe*****te into the skin. Thus, it’s important to make cleansing an important part of your skincare routine. Start by wiping your face with the Ponds Vitamin Micellar Water D - Toxx Charcoal and follow it up with deep cleansing face wash such as the Ponds Pure White Anti Pollution + Purity with Activated Charcoal Face Wash. Take a small amount in your palms and apply on wet face in circular motions for a minute, concentrating on the t-zone. Wash off with lukewarm water.

8 cleansing mistakes you're probably making

We know, we know – facial cleansing is pretty easy, right? Splash on some water, work in some product and you're basically good to go. Except it's not as straightforward as that with the range of cleansers on hand, and if you're not scrubbing up properly, the signs will start to show.

It might be time to break up with the face wipes; yes we know they're the easy option, but at what price to your skin? The majority are loaded with chemicals which, sure, will dissolve your makeup, but surfactants and emulsifiers tend to aggravate. Not to mention the scrubbing involved on a stubborn scrap of mascara, all that pulling is a massive no-no around your delicate eyes.

How to Double-Cleanse According to Your Skin Type

There was once a time when we all believed washing our faces with soap and water was all the cleansing our skin needed before we hit the sack and call it a night. Then double cleansing came along, and our bedtime routines were never the same again. Turns out our usual soap-and-water combo (and face wipes) isn’t going to cut it if we want all that gunk and grime off our face after a full day at work (and extended happy hour).

“Double cleansing is a method of cleansing your face twice: First, with an oil-based cleanser and again with a water-based cleanser. It can help remove stubborn, pore-clogging and acne-causing impurities that can remain on the skin even after washing your face once,” says board-certified dermatologist David Lortscher, M.D.
