Eelmisel aastal meie seast lahkunud Roy Ayers on kahtlemata üks läbi aegade märkimisväärsemaid fusion’i edendajaid ning 1972. aastal ilmunud He’s Coming näitab härrat tema tippvormis, segades spirituaalse maailma tolle aja karmi reaalsusega.
Kusjuures, He’s Coming on suuresti inspireeritud Broadway rokkmuusikalist Jesus Christ Superstar. Sellele viitavad nii muusikaliloost pärinev kaver „I Don’t Know How to Love Him“ kui ka avalugu „He’s a Superstar“.
Sellegipoolest on plaadi põhilugu ikkagi „We Live in Brooklyn, Baby“. Üks parimaid palu Ayersi kataloogis üldse!

🇬🇧 A fresh reissue from the legendary Roy Ayers catalogue has landed! 👐
Roy Ayers, who passed away last year, was undoubtedly one of the most significant figures in the development of fusion, and his 1972 album He’s Coming finds him at the top of his game, blending the spiritual with the harsh realities of the time.
Interestingly, He’s Coming was heavily inspired by the Broadway rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar. The influence can be heard in the cover of “I Don’t Know How to Love Him” as well as the opening track, “He’s a Superstar”.
That said, the real highlight is still “We Live in Brooklyn, Baby”, easily one of the finest tracks in the Ayers catalogue.
