👉 You might not have heard it yet…

But the new European PPWR laws are killing micro businesses as we speak.

Coming into effect on August 12th, the new PPWR regulations state that every business selling to a country within EU must be responsible for recycling the packaging it brought into said country. Sounds good?

On paper it does. But in reality it means fees and paperwork on a scale non feasible for most of small and micro businesses: your have to register *in each of the 27 EU countries separately*, pay annual fees *in advance, even if you don’t sell there at all * and, to add insult to injury, have a *local representative in each of the 27 member countries*. The latter only costs about 300euro per country, the former is not just costs but having to waddle through bureaucratic nightmare with sometimes isn’t even translated to English.

And what about consumers? Most of the wonderful cross stitch things that we ordered online will stop coming in: independent fabric dyers from UK, needleminder makers from the Australia, and floss dyers from the US will stop selling to EU altogether (or limit their sales to big countries like Germany, but my tiny Estonia will definitely be off all lists).

Right now we have a final chance to voice our concerns: there is a feedback form on website (I’ll drop the clickable link into stories) - please, PLEASE, go and leave your message there or else we won’t have any artisans left anymore!

💚 Needlework Marketplace release number two: Wild Goose Chase 💚 (and the second else featuring birds, there are a lot of birds in my work recently!)

Are you in love with cobra chickens? I have five of them frolicking in the wild, making friends with some cute frogs, and enjoying a pretty mossy pond. This pattern brings me so much joy every time I look at it!

The Wild Goose Chase was lovingly cross stitched by the lovely Soph(ie) Cullen Vaux | Cross Stitch Addict in called for Weeks Dye Works floss on Cobblestone Lugana by AtomicRanchFabrics .

💚 It’s Marketplace season again, and I’ll be sharing my new releases in the next few posts, starting with my favorite: Songbirds and Berries 💚

This beautiful design is inspired by Slavic folk art, and is more vibrant than my usual designs - but the pretty birds called for more fun colors!

This - and all other Marketplace designs - are already available as printed pre-orders in your favorite LNS!

The model is stitched by the lovely in called for DMC on Lupine linen by Picture This Plus.

I almost printed more of the Stitching Companion WIP trackers (and trust me, this is definitely happening!), but decided to hear out what you think before I do!

If you have one of the Companions from the first print run, please let me know if there is something that I missed? Would you like extra pages? Or space for some information that I haven’t thought about? Every thought is welcome!

If you haven’t got a Companion yet, what would you look for in a cross stitch WIP tracker/planner? Again, I would love to hear your thoughts!

While everyone is talking about *the movie* let me remind you of my version of the Odyssey! It is probably of no surprise to you, that it’s centered mostly around Penelope at her loom, weaving Odysseus’ journey into an epic tapestry.

The whole design is stylized to resemble classical Ancient Greek art (many, many references were checked to make the details right) and depicts several of the most known parts of the Odyssey: the Cyclops, Circe, Calypso, sirens, the Underworld, Scylla, Helios’ cattle - and of course the loyal Argos (arguably one of the best parts of the whole story!)

The Wonky Lion (who might or might not be named Herbert 🤣) is now up for all three of my Pаtreon tiers! Perfect for a quick bookmark - or a palate cleanse project after that huuuge pattern you are working on.

This lovely creature was inspired by a gorgeous Greek vase that I spotted in Amsterdam archaeological museum. Swipe to see the original!

The lion is lovingly cross stitched by me on a scrap of hand dyed Zweigart Aida (16 count).

July Pаtreon design (available for The Grove and The Inner Sanctum tiers) is Osiris - The ancient Egyptian god of the Afterlife and rebirth. Osiris is one the main Egyptian gods, and his story is the most wide known myth: his brother Set was jealous of Osiris ruling over Egypt wisely and bountifully; and decided to kill him.

Set succeeded too, but Osiris’ wife Isis used magic to bring him back to life for a while (just for enough time to get pregnant). Osiris didn’t stay alive for long, and went to rule over the Afterlife; but Isis gave birth to Horus who ultimately defeated Set and took up his father’s place as king.

Osiris is often depicted with the lower part of his body wrapped in mummy-like wrappings and green skin.

Throwback Thursday: Ninkasi, a beautiful Sumerian goddess - and the personification - of beer. The beer at the time was drunk not just for the fun of it. Warm climate made regular water a dangerous drink, and making beer (or other alcohol) out of it was ones of the most widely used purification methods.

An ancient hymn dedicated to Ninkasi has survived to this day, that song was most likely sung while preparing beer, and even had the recipe right in the lyrics!
