Join us for an enchanting exhibition curated by Markaz Egypt and esteemed historian Seif El Rashidi, showcasing the vibrant world of Khayamiya—the traditional Egyptian art of tentmaking. This intricate appliqué textile craft, with roots tracing back to ancient Egypt, features colourful, hand-stitched cotton pieces forming elaborate patterns. Historically used to adorn the interiors of tents, Khayamiya now embellishes various items, from cushion covers to wall hangings.
The exhibition is part of the "Heritage for the People" series, exploring the intersection of heritage and community development. It will be held at CRAFTASTIC!, a unique arts venue and crafts training centre located beside the Mosque of Sultan Qaitbey in Cairo's historic "City of the Dead." CRAFTASTIC! ingeniously combines a 19th-century building with a room housing a valuable medieval prayer niche, offering a spacious, inviting, and inspiring environment for art exhibitions.
This event also marks the rebranding of MASQ—Multicultural and Artistic Space at Qaitbey's—expanding beyond monuments to include neighbouring heritage buildings.

ندعوكم لحضور معرض ساحر من تنظيم "مركز مصر" والمؤرخ المرموق سيف الرشيدي، لاستكشاف عالم الخيامية النابض بالحياة—الفن المصري التقليدي لصناعة الخيام. يتميز هذا الحرف اليدوية الدقيقة بتقنية "الأبليك"، التي تمتد جذورها إلى مصر القديمة، حيث تُستخدم قطع القطن الملونة والمطرزة يدويًا لتشكيل أنماط مزخرفة. وقد استُخدمت الخيامية تاريخيًا لتزيين داخل الخيام، وهي الآن تُزين مختلف المنتجات، من أغطية الوسائد إلى اللوحات الجدارية.
يأتي هذا المعرض ضمن سلسلة "التراث من أجل الشعب"، التي تستكشف تقاطع التراث مع التنمية المجتمعية. سيقام المعرض في مركز **كرافتاستك**، وهو مكان فريد للفنون ومركز تدريب على الحرف اليدوية يقع بجوار مسجد السلطان قايتباي في "مدينة الموتى" التاريخية بالقاهرة. يجمع كرافتاستك بين مبنى من القرن التاسع عشر وغرفة تضم محرابًا للصلاة من العصور الوسطى، مما يخلق بيئة رحبة ومُلهمة لاستضافة المعارض الفنية.
يُعد هذا الحدث أيضًا مناسبة للإعلان عن الهوية الجديدة لمركز MASQ—الفضاء الثقافي والفني متعدد الثقافات في قايتباي—الذي يوسع نشاطه ليشمل المباني التراثية المجاورة.
