Kolumbiassa oli kova maanjäristys maanantaina 10.8. Maassa toimii kaksi Emmaus-ryhmää Pereira ja Buenaventura. Heille ei sattunut henkilövahinkoja, m***a monenlaisia materiaalisia vahinkoja kyllä. Tilanne on vaikea.
Ryhmät ovat nyt aktiivisesti mukana yhdessä muiden toimijoiden kanssa kodittomien auttamisessa, jälleenrakennuksessa ym.
Kansainvälinen Emmaus on julkaissut (alla) vetoomuksen näiden ryhmien tukemiseksi. Lahjoitukset ohjataan Kansainvälisen Emmauksen solidaarisuusrahastoon (merkinnällä ’Solidarity with Colombia’):
"Colombia has just been struck by a powerful 7.4 magnitude earthquake, causing significant damage and upending the lives of many communities. Homes and infrastructure have been destroyed, and many families are now facing extreme vulnerability.
The Emmaus Movement is directly affected as two of its groups are located in the impacted areas: Emmaus Pereira et Emmaus Buenaventura. We have been in contact with them and the Americas region to monitor their situation and assess their needs.
At this stage, no lives have been lost in Emmaus communities, but the earthquake has caused significant damage.
In Pereira, the group is currently without water and electricity, but a truck has supplied them with drinking water.
In Buenaventura, electricity has just been restored following an outage lasting several hours. The group has also suffered damage but is already taking in several affected families in the part of the community with the least amount of destruction. The two groups are in touch and continue to assess their situation and the needs of local populations.
In the wake of this disaster, Emmaus International and the Americas region would like to call on the solidarity of the entire Movement to support Emmaus Pereira and Emmaus Buenaventura and enable them to continue and enhance their efforts to help communities affected by the earthquake.
Emmaus International is not an emergency aid organisation, but our Movement has proved capable of taking action during disasters to meet immediate needs, while ensuring its response promotes long-term reconstruction and solidarity.
Based on the needs identified by the Americas region, the funds collected will provide:
immediate aid to affected families to meet their basic needs, either directly through Emmaus groups or by working with local partners and organisations able to help local populations.
support to impacted Emmaus groups, especially to restore their infrastructure means of action.
help rebuilding and medium and long-term support for affected populations, conducted by Emmaus Pereira and Emmaus Buenaventura, possibly alongside local partners.
Through this hardship, the Emmaus Movement in Africa, the Americas, Asia and Europe stands with the people of Colombia, our companions of Emmaus Pereira and Emmaus Buenaventura and all those affected by this disaster.
