We have set our eyes on a Rwandan Bourbon, from another East African country well known for its coffee, and more-so it has also been wonderfully roasted in the Uusimaa region by John Ntagandan from .fi .💛

Rwanda Bourbon

Origin: Nyaruguru District, Nyakizu washing station.

This Fully washed coffee from Nyakizu washing station is an exceptional choice for a single origin coffee. Nyaruguru District in Rwanda’s Southern Province is known for its superb growing conditions. Nyakizu washing station is just as exceptional as its location. At Nyakizu station, coffee goes through multiple levels of sorting for quality and is treated with extreme care by the knowledgeable staff at every stage of processing.

The Nyaruguru District, where Nyakizu washing station is situated, shares many of the features that make coffee from the Kayanza Province so memorable. The high altitudes (with farms between 1750 and 2100 meters above sea level) and rich soil combined with favorable climate and plentiful rainfall are a recipe for superb coffee. The sandy clay soil lends a higher acidity that other areas of Rwanda, and the rich topsoil with abundant organic matter promotes good harvests.

Roasting the coffee is the key method that effect the taste and quality of the coffee. As this is an artisan craft it need years of training to master it. Traditionally girls learn roasting as in their young age to becone suitable for mariage. But as said we are a bit rebel with this. Stay tune 💛

Brewing the coffee in jebena is fairly slow, but we respect the moments we have to slow down. It is like looking at the window for the snowflakes to flow down.
