Sometimes it looks as if my pottery studio is standing right in the middle of Helsinginkatu (Helsinkistreet).
The street makes a bend just in front of UDUMBARA, which gives the studio a wonderfully open view. I often film the view from my window â but this time, I turned the camera around and walked towards it.
UDUMBARA is in Kallio, on the eastern side of heart Helsinki. Once a working-class neighbourhood, Kallio has changed over the years, but much of its character is still here.
Today, many of the old street-level shops and workspaces are home to artists, designers and other creative people, alongside small cafés and restaurants.
And somewhere along the bend of Helsinginkatu, youâll find my little pottery studio.
UDUMBARA has been here on Helsinginkatu since 1997. Iâve watched the neighbourhood change around me while working from this same little studio for almost 30 years.
