Glasswork by Evolum Jukka Isotalo 💚
Jukka about his work:
”When I was six years old, I visited the island of Murano in Italy, where a local glassblower gave me a small ruby-red glass sphere. That little sphere sparked my interest in design.
Questions about the state of our environment led me to choose recycled glass as my primary material. I mainly work with glass bottles collected in the Helsinki area, sourced from restaurants, embassies, beverage producers and importers, and even the Finnish Independence Day Reception at the Presidential Palace. I create my pieces using cold-working techniques, making use of their existing forms rather than melting the glass down. This saves approximately 97% of the energy required to produce hot-worked glass objects. Since 2022, all electricity used in my production has come from wind power. I decorate the glass by sandblasting, without the use of acid.
As an artisan, I strive to bring intellect and emotion together in my work, without compromise.”
