Last night our team celebrated our 2nd anniversary and our co-founder Akanisi Nabalarua Vakawaletabua who is leaving Fiji for Auckland, Aotearoa. Aggie will be repping Baka Books in New Zealand. We look forward to the new relationships we will form there, but we will miss her big, big heart and all the work she does to keep us compliant 😀 Travelling mercies Akanisi! the bookshelves

Great news from the Oceania Centre. We were honoured to collaborate with Emele at the last Fiji Fringe Festival and Ulamila's work graces the walls of the store. We can't wait to see what all three artists produce during their residency.

Vakanuinui vinaka to Emele Ugavule (Australia), Ulamila Buiravonu Bulamaibau (Fiji), and Nina Nawalowalo ONZM (New Zealand), who have been selected as the inaugural Oceania Pacific Arts Residency artists, heading to Suva, Fiji.

A partnership between Creative New Zealand, Creative Australia and the Oceania Centre at the University of the South Pacific (USP), the six-week residency brings together one senior artist from each country to develop new work exploring climate change and its impact across the Pacific

All the best to Emele, Ulamila and Nina for the journey ahead.

You won't see our Literature Lab coordinator Alena in store this week because she is participating in this incredibly important Talanoa Booklab - part of a publishing initiative that brings together writers, educators, language specialists, illustrators and cultural experts through a Solesolevaki approach to develop high-quality educational resources for Fiji's national curriculum. We look forward to seeing where this journey leads. Vinaka vakalevu Alena and TTFB!
