Andrea Guarneri, grandfather of Giuseppe Guarneri “Del Gesù”, lived between 1626 and 1698. He started his apprenticeship with Niccolò Amati at the age of fifteen, and built this beauty in 1659. I love his work as well as that of his son Giuseppe “filius Andreae”. But most of my work has been inspired by “Del Gesù’ partly because there’s so much more info and measurements available concerning his violins. But it’s the Guarneri dynasty which sparks the most inspiration for me.

Five Kloo violins and two Kloo violas gathered at the same time! Two of the violins and the two violas are for sale. Three of the violins are played by professional soloists/orchestra musicians, and in my atelier for som tender love and care.

My violin op 74 from 2024 needed a new soundpost so I took the opportunity to take some photos. It’s inspired by Amati and early Strads, and the owner is very happy with it.

Cutting the purfling channel. Using a lot of force - that’s why my hand trembles. This piece of maple is very hard. The maple for the violin I’m building in parallel is softer. It will be interesting to hear how the two violins will sound in comparison with each other. The model is the same and the spruce for the tables is quite similar between the two.
