We will be welcoming Sudi Pigott to the bookshop on Saturday May 23rd between 5pm and 7pm to discuss her latest book « Consider the Anchovy »

« Consider the Anchovy » is a love letter to the humble anchovy that journeys along the Mediterranean and around the world, exploring the fascinating history and culture behind the little fish with big flavour.
Alongside delicious recipes to close each chapter, this book is rich in research, stuffed with maverick, rakish characters and full of flavour. Whether you love them or hate them, Consider the Anchovy is both an entertaining odyssey and an unabashedly passionate manifesto that celebrates anchovies

Sudi Pigott is a highly respected food and travel journalist whose work frequently appears in national and international press including The Telegraph, The Times, Conde Nast Traveller, Amex Departures, BA High Life and Fine Dining Lovers..
On substack Sudi continues the work of her first hit bestselling book How to be a Better Foodie deciphering the latest food, travel, restaurant and drink trends. She has been visiting Nice for many years and Salade Nicoise has been formative in her life: from enjoying a very incorrect one at a bistro on King’s Road, as a teenager to when she discovered a truly vraie Nicoise in Nice.

Journalist and author John Jay will be joining us at the bookshop to discuss his book Ninette’s War on Monday May 18th between 5pm and 7pm.
As always, our event is free and open to all. No need to reserve!

Ninette’s War tells the true story of a young Jewess in France during the Second World War. Ninette Dreyfus belonged to one of the most influential Jewish families in Paris—second only to the Rothschilds. But privilege counted for nothing when the N***s arrived and the family was high up on the list of Philippe Petain’s targets.
Inspired by diary entries and conversations John Jay had with Ninette before she died, Ninette’s War narrates the family’s fall from grace. Woven into the political backdrop of a nation turning inward on itself, this is the tale of a life once filled with riches becoming rootless, where friends were left behind and politicians legislated their own people out of existence…
John Jay, born in London, is a journalist, running the financial coverage of The Sunday Times. He published his first book in 1989 with his wife Judi Bevan, The New Tycoons, followed by his second book in 2014 Facing Fearful Odds – My father’s story of captivity, escape and resistance 1940-1945. Ninette’s War is his third book.

Will be hosting our first ever GERMAN LANGUAGE AUTHOR at the bookshop on Saturday May 9th between 5pm and 7pm. Author and journalist Bettina de Cosnac will be presenting her latest novel Palmen und Zitronen, a light-footed, multi-generational novel with French Riviera flair set against a lush green backdrop. The event will be mainly in German, but Bettina also speaks French and English.

“Seventeen-year-old Alice is about to graduate from high school and is allowed to travel to Nice as an incentive. On her very first evening, she meets Filippa—a lively 64-year-old who enjoys life on the Côte d’Azur and has a passion for gardens. Of all people, she is the one who helps Alice, despite their age difference, when Alice’s life begins to fall apart and dark, criminal shadows emerge...”

There’s a new detective in town…

We are very excited to be welcoming author Jim McGhee and his Detective Inspector Barney Mains mystery series to the bookshop on Thursday May 7th between 5pm and 7pm.

Detective Inspector Barney Mains is in a dead end admin job in the bowels of Police Scotland, going nowhere, when out of the blue, he gets a second chance… He is sent to Nice, France as minder to a sparky young high flyer and told merely to report back as French police search for a missing British billionaire. But he just has to get involved… And so begins a series of perilous investigations in the company of DC Ffiona McLuskey and silver-haired Capitaine Jean-Luc Verten of the Police Nationale…

Jim McGhee is a former award-winning environmental journalist and co-founder of a recruitment agency in his home town of Edinburgh, Scotland. Nice has been his second home for 20 years and in 2023 he moved to the French city permanently.

As always, our author event is open to all and no need to reserve. Come one, come all!
