Today, the Gallery opens a special exhibition on Chinese Masks.

Curated by Qiyuan Han, this exhibition presents an exceptional selection of Chinese Nuo masks, among the most remarkable ever brought together. Rare and powerful works, testament to a still largely underappreciated form of Chinese tribal art.

The opening takes place on Thursday, July 16th, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., and the exhibition will run through July 25th.

In just two months, Parcours des Mondes returns. We look forward to being there and presenting our special exhibition.__...

As today is the Fête de la Musique in France, we take the occasion to present this Ngombi harp — a stunning example of Ngbaka-ma'bo art.

Among all speakers of Ubangian languages, the Ngbaka-ma'bo are the only people to have crafted large ten-stringed harps adorned with a human head. These Ngombi harps accompanied vocal music, particularly during performances by musician-storytellers. (Ubangui, J.-L. Grootaers, Fonds Mercator, p. 19, no. 15.5)

This impressive Epa mask from the Yoruba people is currently on display at the Gallery. Standing at over 1.12 metres tall, it is a striking example of the monumental sculptural tradition of the Yoruba, in which the headdress surmounting the helmet mask depicts elaborate figurative scenes of extraordinary craftsmanship.
