Soooo not every Online Book Club has a book pick we’ve already done at the shop… because last Monday we discussed ‘Ordinary Saints’. And I am so happy the publisher (Bonnier Books) told me I should read this and then (almost) everyone loved the book! This book handles tough subjects so well: there’s religion, grief, family, q***r, loneliness, love. You see a long list but it’s all done in such a beautiful way. We enjoyed the pace of the book (and the writing!), the complexity of characters, and how not everything is black and white. Thank you all for your amazing insights and spending your Monday evening with me! Time always flies when we have our Online Book Clubs! ❤️

Sometimes books are worth the hype. We all loved ‘The Names’! It’s a well-written debut novel full of layers, emotions, growth, and hope. A book in which you follow three different (life)stories and… I will write more about this book later because I loved reading this one so much. During the book club we talked about our crying moment(s), the different characters, the books we chose because of their title, and the question: will Florence write another book soon? We’re probably going to pick this book for an online book club as well ;) So stay tuned readers outside of Rennes ;)

We’re so thrilled to announce a competition for kids! As you know, we love Clare’s work (her books and Books That Help) and we’re now organizing a competition together. And don’t worry for the older ones, we’ll organize another competition open to everyone ;)
.
All you have to do is design your own animal character (incl. their name and a description of them and their personality). What do they love? What are they afraid of? Do they have a secret?
Some important requirements
- only children can participate until 13 years
- Send your kid’s work before the 21st of June in PDF file to [email protected] with subject line “Competition Animal Character”
- need to live in Europe
- documents to check on our website -> News tab -> Competitions with Clare
WIN
Your character will star in Clare’s chapter book series! And, of course, you’ll also win the entire book series ;)
We can't wait to see all your wonderful animal characters!

You know… the book club changed my mood completely because I was soaaaaked this morning! And then the book club happened and we had such a great time so I was happy again, hahaha. We talked about what kind of relationship we prefer in books (friendship, love, family), all the books, series, women in history. It was such an interesting discussion and then it was already time 😥 Thank you all for this great book club! ❤️ And can you believe it… my socks are still wet!
The books we discussed: ‘The Tarot Reader of Versailles’ by Anya Bergman, ‘The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes’ by Arthur Conan Doyle, ‘The Wedding People’ by Alison Espach, ‘My Friends’ by Fredrik Backman, ‘Letters to a Young Poet’ by Rainer Maria Rilke, ‘Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow’ by Gabrielle Zevin, ‘The Testaments’ by Margaret Atwood, and ‘Eddie Winston Is Looking for Love’ by Marianne Cronin

Last Monday we had our Online Book Club about Yellowface. It was so fun to discuss this title two times: one for the book club at the shop and one online. Both discussions were so different! Some readers mentioned it’s their favorite book from our book clubs, others had a bit more trouble liking the book. Which is also the interesting part because many different perspectives give the best discussions. We talked about the storyline, who’s allowed to write, a bit of politics, and a lot about June. Thank you all for again a great discussion, it was fun and time passed by too quickly!
