CLARIFICATION

Following on from our earlier post.

Firstly ,Thank you all for your very kind thoughts and messages 🙏

It seems some people have read the previous post and concluded things are much worse than they are, so to clarify.

We lost around a dozen fish from an estimated stock of 700 , with many , many 40s,50s and into the 60+ range, so as much as the loss of 2 scales and big Ron is devastating there are still plenty of stunning big fish out there.

The water quality is back to safe levels and with the use of pumps we aim to keep it that way to ensure things are as good going forward as they always have been for the fish and our customers. Thank you all again 🙏🏻 #

A difficult update from Chateau Moulin Fishing

As many of you will have seen from my videos and photos, last week’s hailstorm was unlike anything we’ve ever experienced. In the 25 years we’ve been here, we’ve never witnessed a storm of that intensity.

Unfortunately, in the days that followed, the lake suffered a small but significant oxygen crash. This is something we have never experienced before, and despite acting as quickly as we could, we sadly lost around 11 carp.

Most of the fish were between 20 and 30lb, with a few in the 40lb class. However, the hardest part for us was losing two of our most special and well-loved residents – Two Scales and Big Ron.

Many of you will know these fish, have caught them, photographed them, or spent countless hours hoping to meet them. We know how much they meant to so many of you because they meant just as much to us. Losing them has been absolutely heartbreaking.

From the moment we realised what had happened, Steve and Georges have worked tirelessly around the clock. We now have multiple pumps running across the lake to maximise oxygen levels, and we’ve been monitoring the water daily with an oxygen meter.

The oxygen levels have now recovered to a point that we’re very happy with, and, most importantly, we have had no further fish losses for the past several days. We’re confident that the lake has now stabilised.

We’ve always believed in being open and honest with our customers, and we wanted to share this with you rather than let rumours fill the gaps. Chateau Moulin has always been about more than just fishing—it’s about caring for this incredible lake and the fish that make it so special.

Thank you to everyone who has sent kind messages, offered support, and checked in on us over the last week. It has meant far more than you know.

⚠️ Important Information for All Guests ⚠️

We’ve just been informed that the Préfecture of Haute-Vienne has introduced a ban on the use of barbecues and other equipment that produces flames or sparks due to the current extreme fire risk.

As this is a legal requirement that applies across the whole department, we must ask all guests not to use barbecues or camping stoves with an open flame .

Thank you all for your understanding and for helping us keep the lake and surrounding countryside safe. ❤️

🎣 James & Laurie joined us last week and despite temperatures soaring well into the 40s, they still managed a fantastic mixed bag of beautiful carp! ☀️🐟
The extreme heat made the fishing challenging, but perseverance paid off with some stunning fish. 👏
Well done, both of you—it was a pleasure having you here .

🌳 Fishery owners wear many hats… and yesterday’s was lumberjack! 🪵😅

A huge tree came down, taking several others with it, so there was only one job for Stephen and George… chainsaws, logging, stacking and clearing until it was all done. 💪

A great week was had . Temps were up 🌡️ so pool in the day fishing mornings, evenings & nights . The lake was booked as an exclusive between 6 anglers and between them they landed 82 carp ( and 1 pike ❤️) 82 between 6 !! Awesome angling guys . See you all in 2028 🇩🇪…
