This is a wonderfully pleasing, well-proportioned oak longcase clock by James Coster.
The beautifully painted break-arch dial immediately draws the eye, with its gilt decoration, subsidiary seconds and calendar dials, and original blued steel hands featuring a delicate diamond pattern.
The oak case is understated and elegant, allowing the craftsmanship to speak for itself, while the 8-day weight-driven movement strikes the hours on a bell via a traditional rack and snail system.
Made around 1785, this is a charming longcase clock with a great deal to admire.
