This is how evenings usually end around here 📖✨

One more page.
Then another.
Then “but this bit is funny — we have to read it.”

January hasn’t been about doing more —
it’s been about noticing how much is already happening in the quiet bits.

And books, as always, are right in the middle of it 💛📚

This year has started with a crazy amount of snow… but not everyone is loving it ❄️😅
We let them outside for “five minutes” 🐾
The cat did not love it.

Suddenly there was snow everywhere, emergency cat cuddles, and absolutely no chance of sticking to whatever the plan was supposed to be.
Honestly?

This year is already shaping up to be very "let’s see what happens when…" ✨❄️

Some days are loud.
Messy.
Full of noise that looks like chaos from the outside 🙃📚

But I’ve learned to pause before shutting it down.
Because often, that loud play is connection.
It’s joy spilling out faster than it can be contained.

It’s everyone meeting in the same moment — just very noisily.
These are the books we reach for on those days.
Not to calm things down…
but to join in ✨📖

You’ll find this kind of joyful, noisy, join-in reading all over the Wonder Wing Books shelves —
stories made for connection, not quiet.

These past few weeks, learning has looked like frozen fingers, wet sleeves, and someone insisting this snowball was “the best one yet” ❄️🙃

Followed by hot chocolate and stories under a blanket on the sofa ☕📚
Plenty of curiosity, laughter, and that moment where you realise this is the bit they’ll remember.

Cold hands. Warm hearts.
Would do it again 🤍❄️

I don’t think this was ever a new lesson for me.

I loved these books as a child.
I asked for them again and again.
And now I’m watching my children do the same —
my youngest four, my eldest at 17, and a couple in between.
I’ve been living these stories through each of them, and the rhythm still matters just as much 📖✨

The same words.
The same patterns.
The same pages, night after night.
Repetition was never about being stuck.
It was always about settling in.
About comfort, confidence, and knowing what comes next.

Green Eggs and Ham has followed me through life —
first as a child, now as a mum —
and I still don’t rush past the “again.”
I never did.

And I still love it 💚

✨ This year feels like an invitation.

Not a plan.
Not a reset.
Just that quiet, fizzy feeling of
“let’s see what happens when…” ✨👀

Last year surprised me in all the best ways — the learning, the connections, the moments that came out of nowhere and changed everything 💫

So this year?
We’re leaning into fun 🎈
Into play 🎨
Into wonder 🌱
Into seeing where stories, questions, and curiosity take us 📚✨
No neat edges.
No expectations.

Just showing up and seeing what unfolds.
And honestly… I can’t wait 💛

Flour on the table.
Pages stuck together.
Learning happening sideways.

Stories don’t just live in books — they spill into kitchens, conversations, and memories we’ll carry into the new year.

Here’s to raising readers who read for joy, curiosity, comfort, and fun.
That’s the goal. Always.

As the year winds down, this feels like the reminder we all need — children and adults.

You don’t need to do more.
You don’t need to be different.
You don’t need to catch up.

You are already enough.

Today’s learning involved biscuits, decorating choices, and a surprisingly deep discussion about whether gingerbread people have feelings.

Graphic novels are real reading.

They support comprehension, emotional literacy, sequencing, humour, and confidence — especially for children who think in pictures first.

If a child is laughing, gasping, or rereading panels out loud…
the story is doing its job.
